The Boiling Springs softball team opened their 2021 season in impressive fashion as they defeated their former region foe Byrnes 14-0 on Monday night as each batter in the lineup either reached base or accounted for a run being scored.
"It's been a long time since we got a win over those guys and we came into the game knowing the level of competition we were facing but we came out hitting the ball strong," said Bulldogs head coach Randy Piazza. "They are a great program but we've been behind the eight ball with them the last few years and to finally get one against them we're really excited about that." Boiling Springs pitcher Olivia Hall and the Bulldogs defense set the tone early as they allowed only one hit outside the infield over the first three innings with the only hit being to left field and that hit almost saw the baserunner thrown out at second on a great throw from leftfielder Samy Quintero. While the Bulldogs were keeping the Rebels off the bases on defense, they were busy getting on the bases when it was their turn on offense. In the bottom half of the first inning shortstop AD Raines started the Bulldogs bats with an infield single and was followed with back to back singles from Hall and catcher Ragan Bristol, with Raines giving Boiling Springs a 1-0 lead on the Bristol single. After the three straight hits by the Bulldogs, first baseman Bri Stanley worked a walk to load the bases. Centerfielder Jaycee Osment followed Stanley with a sharp hit to left field that was snagged by a diving Rebels player for an out but also allowed Hall to score and put the Bulldogs lead at 2-0. With two outs in the inning and leading 2-0 with two runners on the Bulldogs designated hitter Sayde Parris hit a single to right centerfield scoring two more runners and giving Boiling Springs a 4-0 lead going into the second inning. In the bottom of the second inning the Bulldogs got back to work offensively as right fielder Hailey Owens reached base after being hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice but by Raines. Hall followed Raines by reaching base on a walk before Bristol hit a double down the left field line bringing home Owens to put the Bulldogs lead at 5-0. Bri Stanley followed Bristol with a single of her own bringing home two more runners and putting the Bulldogs ahead 7-0 after two innings of play. After seeing the top half of the third inning end off a ground ball to second and back-to-back strikeouts from Hall, the Bulldogs added to their lead in the bottom half of the inning. The inning got started with a double by Sayde Parris who later came home to score on an infield single by Raines to put the Bulldogs ahead 8-0. Boiling Springs extended their lead to 10-0 on the very next at-bat when Olivia Hall hit a two run homer over the left field wall to build on the Bulldogs lead. The homerun just added to an already impressive game that Hall was having from the pitching circle. "On the mound I got off to a rough start but I had a great defense behind me that was working with me along with a great catcher who knew what I was wanting to accomplish and helped me out a lot," said Hall. "At the plate I just went up there looking for my pitch and trying to move my runners to get them in scoring position." In the bottom of the fourth inning the Bulldogs added four more runs all with two outs in the inning that started on a Kate Philbeck walk. Parris followed with her third hit of the game, a single to centerfield, before Philbeck came around to score on a single to left field by Samy Quinterro. With Parris and Quinterro on base at first and second, Hailey Owen got her first hit of the game and made it a memorable one with a deep homerun to right field to push the Boiling Springs lead to 14-0. "One thing we've been successful at throughout the preseason has been getting our leadoff runner on and we did another good job of that tonight," said Piazza. "Sometimes you only get three to four batters that step up but tonight we got a few more. Sayde Parris, our seventh grader, for example came in and got two big hits right off the bat for us tonight. If you're going to win our region and win in the playoffs you have to have everyone in your lineup hitting and producing." In the top half of the fifth inning Byrnes was able to get two runners on with no outs but a strikeout by Hall followed by two strong plays by Kate Philbeck at third base brought the inning and game to an end. Philbeck played a strong game at third base on Monday as she also got an impressive double play in the fourth inning that saw her make a great stab along the baseline before stepping on third base and firing on to first base to end the Rebels half of the inning. For Hall and the other seniors on the Bulldogs team picking up the win over Byrnes meant a lot to them as they have been close in recent years but could never come away with the win. "It feels great to get the win because it's been a long time coming," said Hall. "At the end of the day though it's just another game and we'll move on to the next game with the same energy and the same mindset." Boiling Springs will next take the field on Wednesday when they open region play in a home game against Gaffney before taking part in the Lady Rebel Invitational at the Middle Tyger River park this weekend. On Friday night the Boiling Springs girls lacrosse team hosted their first region matchup of the season falling to Clover 14-1 as the Bulldogs were unable to get much going offensively in front of the home crowd.
While the Bulldogs struggled to find the goal themselves they also had to deal defensively with the attack from Blue Eagles players Summer Davis and Amelia McCauley who combined to score twelve of Clover’s fourteen goals on Friday night. Clover took an early 1-0 lead when Emma Bailey took a shot from the left side of the goal amongst a group of Bulldogs and Blue Eagles players that found the bottom left of the net just two minutes into the game. The Bulldogs responded just a minute later when midfielder Mia Lockwood took a sidearm shot that bounced from ten yards out and found the right side of the net tying the game at 1-1. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs it was the only goal they were able to score on Friday night despite having twelve shots at the goal. Clover retook the lead and extended their lead to 3-1 on back-to-back goals from midfielder Amelia McCauley with the second goal coming off an assist from behind the net from attacker Summer Davis. Davis scored her first goal of the game off a penalty shot from the middle of the field to give Clover a 4-1 lead. After another set of back-to-back goals from McCauley Davis scored her second goal of the game on another penalty shot, this time starting from behind the net before coming around the right side and crossing the front of the goal with a shot to give the Blue Eagles a 7-1 halftime lead. Davis opened the second half with another goal after racing down the right side of the field to put Clover up 8-1 just two minutes into the half. McCauley scored her third set of back-to-back goals that took her just over a minute to score that started with just sixteen minutes left in the game. Over the last twelve minutes of the game Davis scored three of the last four goals for Clover with the only score not from Davis coming off a shot by midfielder Mackenzie Linn. Boiling Springs will return to action on Tuesday in an out-of-region matchup at home against Christ Church. While trailing going into the fourth quarter the Boiling Springs lacrosse team used a big fourth quarter from senior lacrosse attacker Riley Alfonso on Tuesday night to pick up an 11-8 victory over Christ Church and improve to 4-1 on the season.
"The fourth quarter consisted a lot of Riley as he just kind of took over the game," said Bulldogs head coach Justin Mills. "He had several goals there in the fourth quarter but it was an all around team effort as our guys made up there mind that they weren't going to lose that game and kept fighting all the way to the end." Alfonso started the scoring for the Bulldogs on Tuesday night just a minute into the game when he faked a spin to the left before spinning to the right for a shot that found the back of the net and giving Boiling Springs a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later the Bulldogs added another score when midfielder Luke Calderon made a pass from near midfield that found Lucas Olsen making a cross from left to right before hitting a shot that found the right side of the net giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. At the six minute mark of the first quarter the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead that they took to the end of the quarter when midfielder Mathias Oslund hit a twenty-yard unassisted shot from the right side that found the back of the net. Jake Good gave Christ Church their first goal of the game just two minutes into the second quarter when he hit a shot from the left side of the goal to cut the Boiling Springs lead to 3-1. The Bulldogs responded at the three minute mark of the second quarter when Ethan Westhall received a deep pass from defender Adam Dulske down the middle of the field and finished it with a shot from the middle of the field to push the Boiling Springs lead back to three at 4-1. With just over a minute left in the first half Christ Church scored two straight goals over an eight second time span that ended when the Cavaliers Mason Goldsmith took the faceoff and raced down the middle of the Bulldogs defense to find the back of the net to make the Boiling Springs lead at 4-3 when the halftime buzzer sounded. Riley Alfonso started the second half with a score for the Bulldogs just three minutes into the third quarter when he raced from midfield down the left side before firing a shot that found the back of the net and putting the Bulldogs ahead 5-3. The Bulldogs added another goal to their lead at the five minute mark when Luke Calderon evaded two Cavaliers defenders down the right side of the field before taking a shot from just inside ten yards out and making the Bulldogs lead 6-3. Just fourteen seconds later Christ Church started a 4-0 run that lasted a little over three minutes to give the Cavaliers a 7-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. The run by Christ Church was led by Jake Good who scored two of the Cavaliers four goals during the run. When the fourth quarter began it started an impressive run by Alfonso as he hit a left handed jump shot to tie the game at 7-7 just a minute and a half into the fourth quarter before scoring another goal a minute later to put the Bulldogs ahead 8-7. Christ Church tied the game back up at 8-8 a few seconds later on their last goal of the game when Thomas Clark found the back of the net for the Cavaliers. Alfonso gave the Bulldogs the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes to go in the game when he made a run from the left side of the goal before making an impressive shot that found the back of the net to put Boiling Springs ahead 9-8. "Riley represents that essence of a senior," said Mills. "He's not going to lose the games that are winnable. Tonight was a winnable game and he stepped up when it mattered." Boiling Springs added another goal with just over three minutes to go in the game when Elijah Smith hit a shot off an assist from Alfonso to put the lead at 10-8 and extended their lead to 11-8 just before the buzzer sounded to end the game on a shot by Mathias Oslund. The victory over Christ Church, a perennial contender at the 2A level for lacrosse state championships, is just another big step for the Bulldogs program according to Coach Mills as they look to continue to establish themselves as a contender in the lacrosse community. "Our theme coming into this year was that we've always been second tier and these games against Dorman along with Christ Church they matter," said Mills. "Our guys have a chip on their shoulder and want to put themselves in that conversation with those guys." Boiling Springs will return to the field on Friday in a road region matchup against Clover before traveling to Dorman for another out-of-region contest on Monday. The Boiling Springs baseball team used their final game of the Steve Sanders Preseason Tournament to showcase their best game as they defeated Chesnee 6-0 behind an impressive pitching out from left hander Will Holmes.
Holmes was dialed in early as he totaled six strikeouts over the first two innings and pitched four and two-third innings with ten strikeouts without allowing a run before being pulled from the game in the fifth inning. "Will was spot on tonight getting his secondary pitches over along with his fastball," said Bulldogs head coach Jeff Lipscomb. "When he can locate, which he does most of the time, he is a left handed pitcher that is hard to beat." The Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after left fielder Avery Stewart reached base on a walk and later came around to score on a Chesnee wild pitch to go up 1-0. In the second inning Boiling Springs used their speed on the base paths to generate runs as they stole four bases in the inning allowing first baseman Jamison Bagwell to score on a single by third baseman Davis Starnes and Starnes later coming around to score on a single by second baseman Jimmy Rosengrant. In total the Bulldogs accounted for nine stolen bases on Monday night which Lipscomb said was part of the plan coming into the game. "We try to be aggressive on the bases," said Lipscomb. "I think the more aggressive we are the better of a team that we are so we've tried to push that and since its been a year since these kids have played in a game we're trying to get them in an aggressive mindset." After jumping ahead 3-0 after the first two innings the Bulldogs were held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when they were able to add three more runs. The inning got started when Davis Starnes walked and advanced to second on a stolen base. He was followed by Brent Fowler who reached base after being hit by a pitch and was joined on base by Jimmy Rosengrant who reached base on a Chesnee error. Avery Stewart followed Rosengrant with a single to bring home Starnes before Fowler scored on a groundout to shortstop. The Bulldogs added another run on a hit to left field by Tristan Smith to expand their lead to 6-0 over Chesnee. Lipscomb said that with his team being away from the field for a year it was nice to have this tournament to knock off some of the rust of not playing for that long of a period. "It's great to have this tournament to knock the rust off because we were full of rust our first two games," said Lipscomb with a laugh. "We haven't played in a year and with no open season if you don't stay with it this game has a way of humbling you. We're going to stick with it though and take it one game at a time." While they came away with the loss Chesnee had some bright spots on Monday night especially the play of third baseman Jonah Epps who made a great handed stab to start a double play that saw him step on third for an out before making a strong throw to first base to beat the Bulldogs runner to the bag. He also made a great play to tag out a Bulldogs runner in the second inning from a rundown. Boiling Springs will return to play on March 15th when they travel to Byrnes to start regular season play while Chesnee will also return to play on March 15th in a road matchup against Woodruff. After almost a full year of no competition the Boiling Springs boys golf team has come into the 2021 season not missing a beat as they started the season with two straight victories as they came away with a victory at the Rebel Invitational on Monday after also winning the Red Raider Invitational last week.
"It's great to be back," said Bulldogs head coach Josh Pruitt. "I was disappointed last year because I felt like our team was geared up to make a deep run but then the season got cancelled. I'm looking forward to our chance this year and even though we struggled some today we still got it done somehow over Dorman by a shot or two just like we did last week at the Red Raider. We're going to build on this." Boiling Springs won the tournament shooting a team score of 300 which was one shot better than second place Dorman and eight shots better than third place Spartanburg. The victory was a team effort as the Bulldogs didn't have one player shoot higher than 84 and had three players (Zach Phillips, Davis Hill, and Easton Keller) shoot a score of 77 on Monday. The Bulldogs were led on Monday by Andrew Gregory, who made the All-Tournament team with a score of 69 that was second only to Dorman's Nathan Franks who scored a tournament low score of 66. "I was hitting the ball really good today," said Gregory. "My wedges were on point and I was just hitting the ball well. It's just so much fun to be back out on the course." Chesnee also competed on Monday and while they were a fell a little behind the Bulldogs score they were just excited to be back on the course this year. "It's tremendous to be back on the course and it's just a beautiful day as well," said Chesnee head coach Andy Pitt. "Just giving our kids a chance to get out and play after missing last year it's just great. It's just special for our kids to get a chance to play their sport this spring." Pruitt added that his players are very hungry to be back on the course as well. "Our guys are hungry to be back," said Pruitt. "They're really into it and you see their emotions flying out there." Boiling Springs will next return to the course on Monday and Tuesday of next week when they compete in the Bengal Invitational at Columbia Country Club while Chesnee will host Broome at Meadowbrook on Thursday. After losing a thriller to Chapman to start the morning the Boiling Springs baseball team rebounded on Saturday afternoon to defeat Walhalla 11-1 in the second day of the Steve Sanders preseason tournament.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning off a double from catcher Vance Wagner that put the Bulldogs up 2-0 to start the game. Boiling Springs added to their lead in the fifth inning as they scored five runs in the inning coming off the bats of Davis Starnes, Avery Stewart, Hudson Wilson, and Will Holmes. Boiling Springs picked up 11 hits in the game Saturday afternoon with Davis Starnes, Will Holmes, and Jamison Bagwell all having multiple hit days for the Bulldogs. Dylan Anderson picked up the win for the Bulldogs allowing only one run off six hits over four innings of play. The Bulldogs will compete again on Monday for the final round of the Steve Sanders Tournament before officially opening their regular season on March 15th in a road game at Byrnes. On Saturday the Boiling Springs competed in the Snowball Classic, a preseason tournament held at Hillcrest High School, where they made it to the championship game before falling to the home team Hillcrest 4-1 after a successful day of softball.
The championship game was a pitching duel as the Bulldogs' Olivia Hall and the Rams' Kristen Ezzo combined to strikeout 19 batters in the game. with neither pitcher allowing a score until the fourth inning. Ezzo was the first to allow a run when the Bulldogs Bri Stanley hit a towering homerun to left field to put Boiling Springs up 1-0 when the top half of the fourth inning came to an end. In the bottom half of the inning Hall gave up her first run after Ezzo singled and then came around to score on a double by Hannah Stevens. In the top of the fifth inning the Bulldogs were able to get runners at first and second with no outs but back-to-back forced outs at third base combined with a strikeout kept Boiling Springs from being able to add to their run total. The bottom of the sixth inning started off strong for the Bulldogs as Hall struck out the first Rams batter which was followed up by a great throw from Bulldogs centerfielder AD Raines on a hit to right centerfield to cut down a Hillcrest runner at second base to keep the bases empty with two outs. With two outs the Rams got singles from Stevens and Lila Skipper which was followed by an infield single from Georgia Lieb that took a bad hop in front of a Bulldogs defender to bring home Stevens and give Hillcrest a 2-1 lead. Brooklyn Thornson followed that up with a double that scored Skipper and Lieb to put the Rams lead at 4-1 going into the top of the seventh inning, after Hall struck out the final Hillcrest batter of the inning. While Boiling Springs fell just short in the championship game it didn't take away from a successful afternoon for the Bulldogs as they entered the championship game with a 3-0 record. In game one Boiling Springs defeated JL Mann 8-1 as both Olivia Hall and Ragan Bristol both homered in the game. Hall and Hailey Owens also added run scoring doubles for the Bulldogs along with a run scoring single from Jaycee Osment. The Bulldogs got back to work in game two as they defeated Laurens 12-2. They got the runs started in the second inning when Jaycee Ross tripled in both Saydie Parris and Kate Philbeck. Hailey Owens singled in Ross before coming around to score herself on a double by Olivia Hall. Bri Stanley brought home Hall on a single of her own to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead at the end of the second inning. In the sixth inning the Bulldogs added to their lead when Hall hit a homerun to left field that belted the Hillcrest scoreboard while also getting a two run triple from Jaycee Osment along with a RBI double from Parris. In game three Boiling Springs defeated Woodmont 10-4 that got started on a two run homer by Ragan Bristol that hit an embankment past the left field wall. Olivia Hall added a two run homer of her own in the second inning to put the Bulldogs up 4-3 over the Wildcats. In the third and fourth innings the Bulldogs added six runs as Bristol, Saydie Parris, Jaycee Osment, Bri Stanley all came around to score during the two innings. Boiling Springs will hold scrimmages on both Monday and Wednesday next week against Catawba Ridge and Hillcrest before starting their regular season on March 15th in a home game against Byrnes. On Friday night the Boiling Springs girls lacrosse team was handed their first loss of the season falling to Nation Ford 15-6 in their first region matchup of the season.
Nation Ford jumped ahead to a 4-0 lead over the first ten minutes of the game behind the attacks from senior Maddie Barhorst and freshman Catherine Barhorst who accounted for two goals a piece as both also accounted for the assists on the goals they didn't score. Boiling Springs got their first goal of the game when midfielder Mia Lockwood ran pass the Falcons defenders on the right side of the field and found the bottom left of the net on a bounce shot to cut the Nation Ford lead to 4-1 with thirteen minutes left in the half. The Falcons responded with four straight goals that started fourteen seconds later when junior Ann Windell found the back of the net and was soon followed by the third goals of the half for both Catherine Barhorst and Maddie Barhorst before Windell added another goal to put Nation Ford ahead 8-1. Over the last two minutes of the half the Bulldogs got two straight goals from attackers Kirsten Fisher and Bethany Winebrenner to narrow the Falcons lead to 8-3 when the halftime buzzer sounded. Maddie Barhorst added her fourth goal of the game just minutes into the second half to put the Falcons lead back to six goals with a 9-3 lead. Boiling Springs responded with a goal from midfielder Lani Hodge at the seventeen minute mark to put the Nation Ford lead at 9-4. Nation Ford responded fifty-one seconds later with a goal from junior Mia MacMillan that jump started a 6-2 run by the Falcons over the last sixteen minutes of the game that saw Maddie Barhorst and Catherine Barhorst both score two more goal a piece while the Falcons also got their final goal with just over two minutes left in the game from senior Abbey Kuebler. The Bulldogs were able to break up the run by getting goals from midfielder Emma Wood and attacker Kirsten Fisher, her second goal of the game. Boiling Springs will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Mauldin for an out of region game. The Boiling Springs girls lacrosse team wasn't the only team to see their winning streak snapped by the Falcons this week as the boys lacrosse team also fell to Nation Ford 14-4 in a road matchup on Thursday. After almost a year since their last game was played, the Boiling Springs boys soccer team returned to the field on Tuesday night with a 5-0 home victory over their fellow district school Chesnee.
"We knew Chesnee had a young team so we wanted to work on things we'll need against stronger teams," said Bulldogs head coach Jack Underwood. "The region that we're in is a very strong region with a lot of good players so we're going to have be ready to play when we hit the field committing very few mistakes and playing very clean soccer throughout the season." Boiling Springs grabbed their first lead of the game in pretty impressive fashion as freshman forward Yonathan Gonzalez made a diving header that found the back of the net off a cross pass to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 just two minutes into the game. Senior midfielder Jonathan Dill added another goal six minutes later when he took a pass from the right side of the field and hit a shot off the inside of his right foot that found the bottom left of the goal to put the Bulldogs up 2-0. Dill added another goal just before halftime to put the Bulldogs up 4-0 when the halftime buzzer sounded. Dill wasn't the only Boiling Springs player with two goals on Tuesday as Bulldogs junior forward Christian Gonzalez-Calihu scored his first goal at the fifteen minute mark of the first half to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0 but was the only Bulldogs player to score in the second half as he used a left footed shot off a cross from junior Kaillou Touch to put Boiling Springs ahead 5-0 at the ten minute mark of the second half. Boiling Springs used a possession style attack on Tuesday to work for goals against the Eagles and Coach Underwood said that's the style of play the Bulldogs are planning on using this season. "A big part of what we like to do is possession soccer," said Underwood. "We like to have the ball at our feet using a lot of passes and moving the ball well. We want to try and deny the other team possession so that we can dictate the game." As we all get accustomed to the strange ways the pandemic effect schedules this year we can add one more as the Bulldogs game against Chesnee will be their last game until March 26th when they host Gaffney in their first region matchup of the season. On a cool breezy night the Boiling Springs lacrosse team winning streak wasn't effected by the weather as they overcame an early deficit on Monday night to defeat Mauldin 10-8 and improve to 3-0 on the season.
"This win changes the entire trajectory of the season," said Bulldogs head coach Justin Mills. "With us being down two starters we had some guys really step up like Ethan Westhall in the faceoff for example where he played amazing." Mauldin took an early 3-0 advantage over the first eight minutes of the game behind three straight goals from attacker Brady Myers. In the last minute of the first quarter the Bulldogs cut into the Mavericks lead with two straight goals that started with a goal from attacker Riley Alfonso when he hit a left handed shot on a cross that found the back of the net after an assist from midfielder Mathias Oslund. Boiling Springs made the first quarter deficit 3-2 with just twenty seconds left in the quarter when attacker Lucas Olson made a run from behind the net before spinning and hitting a shot that found the top right side of the net. Just a minute and a half into the second quarter the Bulldogs Mathias Oslund broke away behind the Mauldin defense and found the bottom of the net to tie the game at 3-3. At the eight minute mark of the second quarter Boiling Springs took their first lead of the game when Chase Miller maneuvered through numerous Mavericks defenders before finding the top left of the net to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. Mauldin tied the game heading into overtime when the Mavericks Brady Myers scored his fourth goal of the game to tie the game at 4-4 with just over three minutes left in the half. "We've never been down much this season so as coaches we didn't mind to see the deficit because we wanted to see how these kids battled," said Mills. "They passed every test for us tonight." The first goal of the second half came at the five minute mark of the third quarter when Myers scored his fifth goal of the game to put Mauldin ahead 5-4.. During a two minute period in the third quarter from the three minute mark to just outside the one minute mark the Bulldogs scored three straight goals to not only tie the game but take a 7-5 lead over the Mavericks. The Bulldogs scoring started with a goal from Mathias Oslund, his second of the game, and was followed by goals from Elijah Smith and Riley Alfonso, which was also his second goal of the game. With twelve seconds left in the quarter Mauldin was able to cut the lead to 7-6 when midfielder Carter Hawkins found the back of the Bulldogs net. Mauldin tried to add another goal just before the quarter came to an end but Bulldogs goalie Jake Lipscomb made a great save to preserve the Bulldogs 7-6 lead. Mauldin tied the game at 7-7 just over a minute into the fourth quarter when midfielder Blake Krause took a deep shot from the right side that found the back of the net. Alfonso gave the Bulldogs an 8-7 lead when he scored his third goal of the game on a jumpshot that found the bottom left of the goal off an assist from Mathias Oslund at the eight minute mark of the game. Blake Krause scored his second goal of the game for Mauldin less than a minute later to tie the game at 8-8 and just over seven minutes remaining in the game. Chase Miller scored his second goal of the game at the five minute mark for the Bulldogs when he scooped up a deflected shot and followed it up with a right handed shot that found the back of the net to give Boiling Springs a 9-8 lead. Miller added to that lead just seconds later off an assist from Lucas Olson to put the Bulldogs ahead 10-8 with four minutes to go in the game. With time running out in the game Mauldin attempted to break down the Bulldogs defense but were unable to find the net thanks in part to two great saves from goalie Jake Lipscomb over the last two minutes of the game. Lipscomb finished the night with 10 saves for the Bulldogs defense and impressed his head coach. "Jake is a stud goalie," said Mills. "We have two goalies on this team that could play for any high school in this state but we went with Jake tonight and he made a lot of saves most goalies wouldn't make." Boiling Springs will now take their undefeated record into region play as they'll travel to Nation Ford on Thursday and Coach Mills is looking forward to the upcoming games for his team. "Our outlook heading into region play is good," said Mills. "We're healthy and have three wins under our belt with a lot of experience for our younger guys. If we can tread water the next few weeks until we get all our starters back we'll be just fine." |
