GREENVILLE, SC - On Thursday Boiling Springs rising senior golfer Andrew Gregory, coming off his second straight 5A golf state championship this past season with the Bulldogs, won the 24th annual Blade Junior Classic Boys Championship at Thornblade Golf Course in Greenville.
Gregory won the three-day tournament with a score of 216, which was three shots over par and three shots better than second place Tip Price who shot a score of 219. He entered the final round on Thursday with a four-shot lead after sinking six birdies on Wednesday. He said that with the conditions of the course was tough on Thursday so playing consistent golf was the key in his success over the three days. "This course is great and today it was so hard," said Gregory. "I made a lot of pars today. That's what really kept it going today as I wasn't hitting it the best, but I made a bunch of clutch putts that kept me in it." While Price made a run at Gregory over the last few holes on Thursday with back-to-back birdies, Gregory kept up his consistent play on the greens down the stretch to secure the victory as he parred both the 16th and 17th holes before finishing the day with a bogey on the 18th hole. "I just made a lot of good putts," said Gregory. "I didn't hit it real close during the week, but I was able to make a lot of good putts." The victory by Gregory on Thursday is his second South Carolina Junior Golf Association win this year. |
