The Christmas break will be a little extra enjoyable for the Boiling Springs boys basketball team as they defeated the Ridge View Blazers 46-45 on Saturday night to capture the Shootout By the Sea basketball tournament at North Myrtle Beach High School. The Bulldogs overcame a nine point halftime deficit to walk away with the championship. Seth Hewitt led the Bulldogs in the championship game with twenty points and nine rebounds. The Bulldogs trip to the championship game started on Thursday with a 69-52 victory over Wren and was followed up on Friday night with a 64-60 victory over John Champe out of Virginia. Boiling Springs' junior Kamal Desor was named MVP of the tournament while fellow junior teammate Chance Guest was named to the All-Tournament team. Desor averaged sixteen points for the tournament highlighted by an impressive twenty three point game against John Champe on Friday night. "I'm really proud of the toughness that our team showed during this tournament," said Bulldogs head coach Hal McManus. "We got down at times but our team never gave up and we were able to capture the championship." The Bulldogs will be off for the Christmas break and will return to the court January 3rd when they host the Chapman Panthers. With Boiling Springs holding on to a one point halftime lead, it was a strong second half that propelled the Bulldogs to a 71-48 victory over the visiting Broome Centurions. The Bulldogs outscored the Centurions 40-18 in the second half. "I think there in the second half we really showed what type of team we can be," said Boiling Springs Head Coach Hal McManus, "I'm really proud of the performance from our team tonight especially in the second half."
The Bulldogs were led on offense by junior Kamal Desor who scored twenty-three points but he wasn't the only player with a good game for the Bulldogs as Seth Hewitt finished the night with fourteen points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. Boiling Springs also got a nice surprise as junior Zach Balldinelli made his first appearance for the Bulldogs this season giving them seven points off of the bench. Broome was led by junior Khalil Stringer who scored eighteen points for the Centurions. He wasn't the only Centurion to finish in double figures though as senior David Miller was able to score eleven points against the Bulldogs. With the victory the Bulldogs improve to 3-0 against the Centurions this season. The Bulldogs now finish their pre-Christmas tournament schedule on a two game winning streak. The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday as they travel to the Shootout By the Sea basketball tournament at North Myrtle Beach. |
