GREENVILLE, SC - The Spartanburg Christian Academy Warriors fell behind early but rallied late to keep their record perfect with a 12-9 victory over Southside Christian on Tuesday night.
With the win the Warriors improve their record to 3-0 on the season as they work towards region play. Southside Christian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as the first three batters in their order all came around to score. SCA got on the board in the second inning when Bella Rollins, who had reached on an error, later came around to score to put the Southside lead at 3-1. Southside responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring two more runs as the top two hitters scored again to put their lead at 5-1 over the Warriors. In the top of the third inning the Warriors responded by batting through the order which got started when Tayte Calvert started the inning with a walk. She scored on the next at-bat on a double to centerfield by Hayden Kennedy to cut the lead to 5-2 in favor of the Sabres. Ellie Calvert followed Kennedy with a double of her own to centerfield to score Kennedy and put the lead at 5-3 before Calvert herself scored on a single to leftfield by Addie Anderson to narrow the lead to 5-4 over the Warriors. The top of the fourth inning saw the Warriors take their first lead of the game as Tayte Calvert and Hayden Kennedy both worked walks before moving over to second and third bases on a sacrifice bunt by Ellie Calvert. Tayte Calvert tied the game at 5-5 on a single to leftfield by Bella Rollins before Kennedy gave the Warriors their first lead of the game at 6-5 when she stole home to put the Warriors ahead. In the top of the fifth inning the Warriors added to their lead by batting through the lineup once again as Addie Nichols, Tayte Calvert, Hayden Kennedy, Ellie Calvert, Lauren Campbell, and Bella Rollins all scored in the inning to put the Warriors ahead 12-5 with two innings left to play. Southside Christian added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning by scoring three more runs but it wasn't enough as the Warriors captured a 12-9 victory. Hayden Kennedy led the Warriors at the plate registering four hits that included two doubles, a triple, and a single with four RBIs while finishing just a homerun shy of the cycle. Bella Rollins started the game in the pitching circle for the Warriors going three innings while striking out six batters before Tayte Calvert came on in relief for four innings while striking out five batters and picking up the win. Spartanburg Christian Academy will look to keep their winning streak going on Thursday when they host Chapman for their first home game of the season with a scheduled first pitch time of 5:30 PM. |
