On Saturday the Boiling Springs competed in the Snowball Classic, a preseason tournament held at Hillcrest High School, where they made it to the championship game before falling to the home team Hillcrest 4-1 after a successful day of softball.
The championship game was a pitching duel as the Bulldogs' Olivia Hall and the Rams' Kristen Ezzo combined to strikeout 19 batters in the game. with neither pitcher allowing a score until the fourth inning. Ezzo was the first to allow a run when the Bulldogs Bri Stanley hit a towering homerun to left field to put Boiling Springs up 1-0 when the top half of the fourth inning came to an end. In the bottom half of the inning Hall gave up her first run after Ezzo singled and then came around to score on a double by Hannah Stevens. In the top of the fifth inning the Bulldogs were able to get runners at first and second with no outs but back-to-back forced outs at third base combined with a strikeout kept Boiling Springs from being able to add to their run total. The bottom of the sixth inning started off strong for the Bulldogs as Hall struck out the first Rams batter which was followed up by a great throw from Bulldogs centerfielder AD Raines on a hit to right centerfield to cut down a Hillcrest runner at second base to keep the bases empty with two outs. With two outs the Rams got singles from Stevens and Lila Skipper which was followed by an infield single from Georgia Lieb that took a bad hop in front of a Bulldogs defender to bring home Stevens and give Hillcrest a 2-1 lead. Brooklyn Thornson followed that up with a double that scored Skipper and Lieb to put the Rams lead at 4-1 going into the top of the seventh inning, after Hall struck out the final Hillcrest batter of the inning. While Boiling Springs fell just short in the championship game it didn't take away from a successful afternoon for the Bulldogs as they entered the championship game with a 3-0 record. In game one Boiling Springs defeated JL Mann 8-1 as both Olivia Hall and Ragan Bristol both homered in the game. Hall and Hailey Owens also added run scoring doubles for the Bulldogs along with a run scoring single from Jaycee Osment. The Bulldogs got back to work in game two as they defeated Laurens 12-2. They got the runs started in the second inning when Jaycee Ross tripled in both Saydie Parris and Kate Philbeck. Hailey Owens singled in Ross before coming around to score herself on a double by Olivia Hall. Bri Stanley brought home Hall on a single of her own to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead at the end of the second inning. In the sixth inning the Bulldogs added to their lead when Hall hit a homerun to left field that belted the Hillcrest scoreboard while also getting a two run triple from Jaycee Osment along with a RBI double from Parris. In game three Boiling Springs defeated Woodmont 10-4 that got started on a two run homer by Ragan Bristol that hit an embankment past the left field wall. Olivia Hall added a two run homer of her own in the second inning to put the Bulldogs up 4-3 over the Wildcats. In the third and fourth innings the Bulldogs added six runs as Bristol, Saydie Parris, Jaycee Osment, Bri Stanley all came around to score during the two innings.
