On Friday night the Boiling Springs girls lacrosse team was handed their first loss of the season falling to Nation Ford 15-6 in their first region matchup of the season.
Nation Ford jumped ahead to a 4-0 lead over the first ten minutes of the game behind the attacks from senior Maddie Barhorst and freshman Catherine Barhorst who accounted for two goals a piece as both also accounted for the assists on the goals they didn't score. Boiling Springs got their first goal of the game when midfielder Mia Lockwood ran pass the Falcons defenders on the right side of the field and found the bottom left of the net on a bounce shot to cut the Nation Ford lead to 4-1 with thirteen minutes left in the half. The Falcons responded with four straight goals that started fourteen seconds later when junior Ann Windell found the back of the net and was soon followed by the third goals of the half for both Catherine Barhorst and Maddie Barhorst before Windell added another goal to put Nation Ford ahead 8-1. Over the last two minutes of the half the Bulldogs got two straight goals from attackers Kirsten Fisher and Bethany Winebrenner to narrow the Falcons lead to 8-3 when the halftime buzzer sounded. Maddie Barhorst added her fourth goal of the game just minutes into the second half to put the Falcons lead back to six goals with a 9-3 lead. Boiling Springs responded with a goal from midfielder Lani Hodge at the seventeen minute mark to put the Nation Ford lead at 9-4. Nation Ford responded fifty-one seconds later with a goal from junior Mia MacMillan that jump started a 6-2 run by the Falcons over the last sixteen minutes of the game that saw Maddie Barhorst and Catherine Barhorst both score two more goal a piece while the Falcons also got their final goal with just over two minutes left in the game from senior Abbey Kuebler. The Bulldogs were able to break up the run by getting goals from midfielder Emma Wood and attacker Kirsten Fisher, her second goal of the game. Boiling Springs will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Mauldin for an out of region game. The Boiling Springs girls lacrosse team wasn't the only team to see their winning streak snapped by the Falcons this week as the boys lacrosse team also fell to Nation Ford 14-4 in a road matchup on Thursday.
