LANDRUM, SC - The Boiling Springs basketball team fell behind early in the championship game at the Battle of the Border tournament but came storming back in the third quarter before eventually falling 68-64 to the homestanding Landrum Cardinals.
"We put ourselves in a hole there in the first half with a lot of that being able to be attributed to the strong shooting by Landrum," said Bulldogs head coach Curtis Nash. "We challenged our guys at halftime to chip away at the lead and at one point I looked up and we were down three points. So, I'm proud of how the guys responded in the second half." The Bulldogs got down early behind some hot shooting from the Cardinals that saw them start on a 21-2 run that turned into a 23-6 lead when the horn sounded to end the first quarter. Landrum pushed their lead to twenty points in the second quarter but Boiling Springs was able to gain some momentum before the halftime buzzer sounded as they cut the Cardinals lead to 36-20, led by six points from Tre Locklear, as both teams left the court for the halftime break. In the third quarter the Bulldogs were able to cut the Landrum lead to 49-38 with just over a minute and a half to go in the quarter, which was aided by two big three-pointers from Dominique Johnson. At the 1:20 mark the Bulldogs Julius Camp Jr hit a floater down the lane to put the Landrum lead inside of ten points at 49-40. Landrum tried to push their lead back out over ten with a three-pointer but Landon Sprouse responded with a three-pointer of his own to keep the lead at nine points. With fourteen seconds left in the quarter Camp grabbed a rebound and was able to get a putback in while being fouled to narrow the Landrum lead to 52-46 over the Bulldogs. Boiling Springs narrowed the lead to 52-49 when the buzzer sounded to end the quarter when Camp, who was at the top of the post, found London Hogan on the right side to sink a three-pointer as the ball fell through the net as the buzzer echoed throughout the building. Landrum started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to push their lead back to nine but the Bulldogs weren't going to be deterred as a 6-2 run from the four-minute mark to the three-minute mark, which included two layups from Camp and one from Johnson, cut the Cardinals lead to 60-55. An Austin Faile layup cut the Landrum lead to 61-57 with thirty-four seconds to go in the game but the Cardinals were able to go six of six down the stretch from the free throw line to help seal the victory for Landrum. Dominique Johnson and Tre Locklear were named to the All-Tournament team for the Bulldogs as Locklear finished the game with 18 points and Johnson finished the game with 13 points of his own. Locklear led the Bulldogs in the tournament averaging 19.3 points a game with Johnson finishing the tournament just behind him averaging a strong 18 points a game himself. Austin Faile joined both Johnson and Locklear in double figures on Thursday night as he ended the game with 10 points for the Bulldogs. Landrum saw Isaiah Washington named the tournament Most Valuable Player as he scored 28 points in the championship game on Thursday. He also saw teammates Mason Raines and Franklin Davis be named to the All-Tournament team on Thursday night. Boiling Springs will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to face Byrnes before returning home on Friday night to host the Hillcrest Rams. LANDRUM, SC - After a rough first two days, the third day saw the Boiling Springs girls' basketball team grab their first victory of the tournament grabbing a 45-15 win over Spartanburg Christian Academy to close out their time at the Battle of the Border tournament on Thursday morning.
"We needed this win today," said Bulldogs head coach Dwayne Lytle. "After losing to Asheville by forty points on the first day that can be a motivational killer but sometimes we need games like that to show what things we need to work on going into region play." Boiling Springs got out to a quick start on Thursday as they controlled the opening tipoff and shortly after finding junior Amiah Ellis at the left arc for a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead just seconds into the game. The Bulldogs kept their onslaught of offense going early as Ansley King scored eight points in the quarter, including two three-pointers, to give Boiling Springs a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter both teams scored four points each as the Bulldogs held a 21-12 lead when the buzzer sounded for halftime. SCA's Kaycee Smith was key for the Warriors offense in the first half as she accounted for eight of the team's 12 first half points. Coming out of halftime the Bulldogs got their offense back going as they started the third quarter on a 7-0 run that included back-to-back rebounds and putbacks for Sarah Ezell, accounting for four of her eight points in the quarter. The Boiling Springs defense kept the pressure on the Warriors as they held them to one point in the quarter and outscored them 17-1 in the quarter to hold a 38-13 lead when the third quarter came to an end. Boiling Springs was able to keep up their strong performance in the fourth quarter winning the quarter 7-2 to help seal the win. The Bulldogs got another strong game from Ansley King who led all scorers with 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. King was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 13 points a game for the tournament. "Ansley came into this season thinking she couldn't compete at this level, but we told her to trust in herself and she is just really producing for us this season," said Lytle. "It's amazing what she's doing for us on the court this season but what people don't see is how she leads our team off the court. So not only does she lead them on the court, but she does the same thing off the court as well." Sarah Ezell joined King in double figures for the Bulldogs as she finished the game with 10 points, four rebounds, and a steal. The Bulldogs also got strong games from post players Madilyn Morris, who finished the game with five points and six rebounds, and Tajah Davis who added another four points and seven rebounds. Kaycee Smith led Spartanburg Christian Academy on Thursday morning as she came away with nine of the Warriors 15 points in the game. Boiling Springs will look to continue the momentum from their game against SCA into next week, their final week of non-region basketball. "We got Chapman on Tuesday and loss a close one to them the last time so we're looking for a little revenge in that game," said Lytle. "We want that win to send us strong into region play. Our region is tough, but I think we have a shot at it if we can compete at the level we have played at earlier this season." The Bulldogs will open the 2022 side of their schedule with a home matchup against Chapman on Tuesday night. LANDRUM, SC - Just one week after playing for the championship at the Chesnee Roundball Classic, the Boiling Springs basketball is bound for its second straight holiday basketball tournament championship after defeating Gaffney 58-45 on Wednesday night in the second round of the Battle at the Border tournament.
After finding some momentum in the final two periods of play on Tuesday against Spartanburg Christian Academy, the Bulldogs carried that momentum into the game on Wednesday night as they jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter holding on to a 17-6 lead before a last second shot by Gaffney to end the quarter put the Bulldogs lead at 17-9 over the Indians. Dominique Johnson and Tre Locklear continued their strong play in the tournament as they combined to score 15 of the team's 17 points in the quarter. Boiling Springs kept their momentum going into the second quarter scoring the first seven points of the quarter extending their lead to 26-9 over the Indians. Gaffney wasn't going to just let the Bulldogs win though as they closed the game to within six points at halftime behind a strong shooting performance from senior guard Joe McGill who scored nine points for the Indians in the quarter. Gaffney closed the second quarter on a 16-5 run. The Bulldogs were able to fend off the Indians attack though as Boiling Springs guard Tre Locklear hit three three-pointers in the quarter as he scored 10 of the Bulldogs 14 points in the quarter allowing the Boiling Springs to take a 31-25 lead into the halftime break. Both teams played pretty close basketball in the third quarter as the Bulldogs slightly outscored the Indians in the third quarter 11-9 to hold a 42-34 lead heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs used a strong performance from the free throw line to help seal the victory as they went 11 of 16 from the line as their shooting from the line accounted for all but five of their fourth quarter points. Tre Locklear led the way for the Bulldogs on Wednesday night with 28 points while hitting at least one three-pointer in each of the four quarters. LANDRUM, SC - After struggling to get much offense going in the early parts of the game the Boiling Springs basketball team saw themselves close on an impressive 34-17 run over the final two periods of play to claim a 60-53 victory over Spartanburg Christian Academy in the first round of the 2021 Battle of the Border tournament held at Landrum High School.

At the 4:51 mark though the Warriors Lathan Moss hit two free throws to give SCA their first lead at 17-16 over the Bulldogs, as the free throws also started a 12-3 run to end the quarter for the Warriors that saw them take a 27-19 lead into the halftime break. The Warriors pushed their lead to 36-26 at the end of the third quarter when the Warriors' Trey McManus hit a three-pointer, which wasn't even his most important of the game, from the right side while also being fouled for a four-point play to end the quarter and make the SCA lead ten points going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs started their run which included a big six-point quarter from Dominique Johnson as they cut into the Warriors lead. Boiling Springs was able to cut the lead to 39-37 at the four-minute mark after back-to-back steals and layups by both Charkei Singleton and Julius Camp Jr. With the Bulldogs still trailing 42-40 with just under a minute to go in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs Charkei Singleton found sophomore Landon Sprouse on the right side of the court for a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs their first lead since midway through the second quarter at 43-42. The Bulldogs Tre Locklear followed that shot with back-to-back free throws to push the Boiling Springs lead to 45-42 with eleven seconds left in the game when the Warriors taking a timeout. In overtime Dominique Johnson and Tre Locklear continued their strong play as they combined to score 11 of the Bulldogs 15 points in the overtime period to claim the victory as they also limited the Warriors to only eight points in overtime. ”In the first quarter it was like we had no energy and the passion that we preach for them to have, we just didn't have it early," said Bulldogs head coach Curtis Nash. "At halftime we challenged them to turn up the intensity on defense to help create offense and that's what they did." The early part of the game saw both teams unable to find much distance between each other as Chesnee scored the first basket before Boiling Springs answered with five straight points. When the buzzer sounded to end the quarter it found both teams tied at 9-9 as the Bulldogs scoring was spread between five different players and the Eagles saw guard Brady Poole account for six of the team’s points. Chesnee started the second quarter with three straight points to take a 12-9 lead before Boiling Springs responded with four straight points to take a 13-12 lead. The game stayed close throughout the rest of the quarter as the Bulldogs held onto a 19-16 lead at halftime as the Bulldogs got six points from Julius Camp Jr in the quarter. Coming out of halftime the Bulldogs went on a 6-2 run to take a 25-18 lead over the first four minutes of the quarter before Chesnee responded with a 7-2 run of their own to put the Boiling Springs lead at 27-25 with the clock running down in the quarter. With less than two minutes to go in the third quarter Boiling Springs started a 10-0 run that was ended on back-to-back steals by Charkei Singleton that ended with layups, including the last basket that fell as time ran out to give the Bulldogs a 37-25 lead heading into the final quarter. Singleton led the Bulldogs with six points in the quarter, but his true impact came on the defensive side where he registered eight steals and was tasked with guarding the Eagles leading scorer Brady Poole. "Tonight we tasked him with guarding Chesnee's Brady Poole because he's a great scorer," said Nash. "We told Charkei to just give us his all on defense and he played well tonight, he really has become one of our senior leaders this year." In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs added to their lead as Tre Locklear, who finished the game with 10 points, and Julius Camp Jr combined to score 11 of the Bulldogs 19 points in the quarter. Julius Camp Jr continued his strong play for the Bulldogs this season as he recorded a double-double leading the team with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, and two steals. “Julius is a very athletic player for us, and we expect a lot out of him," said Nash. "For him to respond like he did tonight, I'm just very proud of him." Brady Poole led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points while KJ Valentine added six points along with 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs will now move to the championship game of the Chesnee Roundball Classic where they will face Catawba Ridge at 7:30 PM on Thursday after the Copperheads defeated Fort Mill in the late game on Wednesday night. Nash said after a quick celebration with his team after the game that they’ll start getting ready for the championship game soon afterwards. "We're going to go in here and celebrate this win as a team then I'm going to tell the kids that we're playing for a championship and that we'll need to bring that same energy and passion we've had since the start of the season," said Nash. Chesnee will face Fort Mill in the third-place game that will start at 6:00 PM on Thursday night. CHESNEE, SC - The Boiling Springs basketball team opened the 2021 Chesnee Roundball Classic with a commanding 66-46 victory over a ten-win Union team to show that they’re a top competitor for this year’s championship.
”We knew coming into the game that Union was going to be a long and athletic team but we just preached to our kids what we have all season which is to play with passion, intensity, and just play our style of basketball,” said Bulldogs head coach Curtis Nash. “As long as we play fast and stay in control, we’re a very good team.” The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter and kept the pressure on as they held a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The first quarter lead came from three main scoring sources as Austin Faile, Julius Camp Jr, and Charlei Singleton combined to score 17 of the team’s 19 first quarter points. ”We preach to our kids to play from the first tic of the game to the last tic of the game to just play hard,” said Nash. “JJ done a good job of being aggressive and getting put backs while Austin was knocking down some shots early and that gave us a cushion early in the game.” In the second quarter Union made a run behind a big quarter from senior guard Jabryson Hunter who scored 14 points in the quarter to cut the Boiling Springs lead to 32-27 at halftime. The Bulldogs were able to fend off the run though as Ketrone Adams and Landon Sprouse combined to score 11 of the Bulldogs 13 points in the quarter. Boiling Springs used an 18-9 run in the third quarter to extend their lead to fifteen points at 50-35 when the buzzer sounded to end the quarter as Faile and Camp once again combined for another big quarter with 15 of the team’s points in the quarter. After going scoreless in the first three quarters, the Bulldogs Tre Locklear made his first appearance in the scorebook in the fourth quarter as he helped seal the team’s victory with 10 points all in the final period. While he was scoreless prior to the final quarter, Locklear had made his presence felt throughout the game finishing with six steals and six rebounds. ”We told Tre at halftime to stay patient and that the game was going to come to him,” said Nash. “We told him to focus on those small things like steals, rebounds, and assists that aren’t in the scorebook as his effort on the court keeps our team going.” Austin Faile led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals. Julius Camp Jr wasn’t far behind Faile as he ended the game with 14 points, eight rebounds, and a steal. Boiling Springs will be back in action on Wednesday when they compete against, host school and fellow district rival, Chesnee in a matchup that’ll be played at 6:00 PM. The winner of the matchup will seal a spot in the championship game on Thursday against either Fort Mill or Catawba Ridge. BOILING SPRINGS, SC - When the Boiling Springs wrestling team picked up their second win of the day at the Indian Land tournament on Saturday, a 66-18 victory over Goose Creek, the victory was a nice way to the end the Bulldogs day but it also signified a larger accomplishment as it was head coach Lee Thomas's 200th career dual victory.
Thomas said that the milestone was never on his mind when he took over the job in 2012 but says it's a special accomplishment that numerous people have put a lot of work to make happen. "I never set out with the goal to reach this milestone when I took over as our only goal each year has been to win state championships," said Thomas. "When I reflect back on it, I think about all the kids that have been a part of those wins because I never wrestled a match in all of those wins. We've literally had doctors, lawyers, teachers, and people in public service that has wrestled for us which is cool when you see it come full circle and see all the good those guys are doing once they get finished wrestling." Thomas said seeing the accomplishments of his wrestlers after their careers shows that they take to heart the message they try to instill in them while they're competing for the Bulldogs. "The biggest thing we preach to our kids year in and year out is that you have to wake up each day and go to work," said Thomas. "I tell them that showing up each day is half the battle in sports, academics, and in the real world. We teach the old blue-collar mentality that you go to work and get paid on Friday, with our Friday being when we get our hands raised after the matches. I tell them after every practice there's no secret success to sports, it's all about the hard work you put in every day." Thomas, a Boiling Springs graduate, said that while this was never his goal when he took the job, after talking with retiring head football coach Rick Tate this season he has started to reflect on what this milestone means to himself. "It was never my goal when I started this job to reach this goal but after listening to Coach Tate reflect on his career this season, I started to look back on my own career," said Thomas. "After those conversations with him I realized this really was something to cherish and to be proud of reaching this milestone." While Thomas said that he is proud of the milestone he said that he was so caught up with how his team was doing early on Saturday he almost forgot about the accomplishment. "To be honest we wrestled so bad in our first two matches on Saturday after driving over two hours that when it happened, I was just happy to win something," said Thomas with a chuckle. "I obviously knew the numbers were there but during the match I just wanted to win something." Thomas said that while wrestling isn't the most followed sport at the school, he takes a lot of pride in the success of the program and the part he has played in that success. "As a graduate of the school at the end of the day it all goes back to school pride for me," said Thomas. "After being self-employed and doing some racing, I realized that I wanted to be a coach and it has always been a passion of mine. I've been blessed to get the opportunities to serve in the capacities I have here at this school and like I preach to the kids you wake up every day and try to make the best of each day." On Wednesday night the Bulldogs pushed Thomas' win total to 201 dual victories when they defeated district rival Chesnee 60-15, which Thomas said he was proud of because how the team has shown improvement as the season has gone along. "I think tonight we wrestled tough," said Thomas. "We are still a super young team as all our wrestlers from 195 lbs and up are all freshmen. We're currently wrestling with eight or nine guys who are either freshmen or sophomores and I told our guys after the match tonight they may have learned more in the last month than any team I've ever coached. They've gotten a lot tougher and learning what a fight is as they know if they can last six minutes in a match, they're going to outdo most people they face as not many people can go a whole six minutes in a match." Boiling Springs will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Crest for a dual match before traveling to Liberty on Saturday for the Liberty Dual matches. The Bulldogs next home match will be after the new year when they host Broome and Southside on January 6th. -James McBee BOILING SPRINGS, SC - Prior to the game there was mix-up about the starting lineup where Boiling Springs' Dominique Johnson was left out of the original announcements but once he got in the game, he made the most of his time as he helped lead the Bulldogs basketball team to a 53-48 victory over the visiting Spartanburg Vikings.
"Dominique has been playing good this week in practice and earned the start but didn't get his named called," said Bulldogs head coach Curtis Nash. "Once he came off the bench, he really played tough and did the things you don't always see in the scorebook." Johnson finished his night leading the Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and a blocked shot. In the first quarter it seemed that the night wasn't going to be a very good one for the Bulldogs as Spartanburg jumped out to an early lead holding a 14-7 advantage at the end of the quarter. It was almost a 14-10 lead but a halfcourt shot by the Bulldogs Tre Locklear at the buzzer that went in the net was ruled no good as it left his hands right after the buzzer sounded. Boiling Springs looked a lot better in the second quarter as Tre Locklear started their scoring with a three-pointer while also getting four big points from Payton Browning. The Bulldogs were able to narrow the lead to 23-22 when Ketrone Adams hit a jump shot on the low block to put the lead at one point with a minute to go in the quarter, the same score that the Vikings held when the halftime buzzer sounded. Nash said he let his team know at halftime they were lucky to be in the game with how they played early but they had an opportunity to win the game and they needed to take advantage of that opportunity. "We didn't play well there in the first half, and we let our guys know in the locker room at halftime we were lucky to be in the position that we were being down one going into halftime," said Nash. "We challenged them to out in the second half to play the basketball we're capable of playing and win this game by being patient on offense while also taking care of the ball." Johnson gave Boiling Springs their first lead of the game by hitting two free throws to start the second half giving the Bulldogs a 24-23 advantage. The Bulldogs built on that momentum as they outscored the Vikings 13-7 in the quarter to take a 35-30 lead going into the final quarter. Spartanburg scored the first two points of the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs followed that up by going on a 6-0 run to extend their lead. The Vikings were able to fight back though as they tied the game at 45-45 with just under two minutes to go in the game. With a minute to go Ketrone Adams gave Boiling Springs the lead back on a layup and was soon followed by a steal along with a layup by Julius Camp Jr to put the Bulldogs lead at 49-45 over the Vikings. Tre Locklear followed that up with a steal of his own before going four of six from the free throw line to help seal the victory for the Bulldogs. While Johnson led the Bulldogs, he wasn't the only Boiling Springs player to finish in double figures on Tuesday night as Julius Camp Jr added 11 points, seven steals, and four rebounds while Tre Locklear added 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Spartanburg senior Devin Barnes led the Vikings in scoring with 18 points on Tuesday night. In the girls' game it took an extra quarter of play to decide the game as Spartanburg grabbed a 64-63 victory over the Bulldogs, that was decided in the last few seconds of the game. The first three quarters was a back-and-forth affair as the Bulldogs were ahead most of the first half but a rough third quarter saw the Vikings take a 41-37 lead. The Bulldogs went down as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter but fought their way back to being down two at 54-52 as the Bulldogs Amiah Ellis stole the ball and finished with a layup. With five seconds left in the fourth quarter Boiling Springs trailed 56-53 when they got one of their biggest shots of the season when sophomore Kylie McMillan fired a three-pointer from the top of the key that hit nothing but net to tie the game at 56-56 sending the game into overtime. In overtime Boiling Springs was able to get a 63-62 lead when sophomore Olivia Shirley grabbed a rebound and put a shot back up to give the Bulldogs the lead along with making some key defensive plays on the other end of the court. With Spartanburg trailing by one they got fouled and went to the line but missed both shots. While they missed the second shot the Vikings Genesis Yung grabbed her 13th rebound of the game before hitting a bank shot with four seconds left in the game to give Spartanburg the 64-63 lead. The final bucket was just another big score from Yung as she led all scorers with 32 points to go along with 13 rebounds and a block. Ansley King led the Bulldogs with 19 points along with two rebounds and two steals. Kylie McMillan added 15 points while Amiah Ellis added 11 points of her own. Boiling Springs and Spartanburg will face off again on Friday night when they travel to the Vikings home court for their second straight matchup of the week. BOILING SPRINGS, SC - Last Friday both Boiling Springs teams won games against their district rivals and one week later the Bulldogs completed the series sweep by taking both games at home as well on Friday night.
In the boys' game the Bulldogs used a pressure defense to capture a 57-28 victory over the visiting Eagles that saw them come away with 19 steals and five blocked shots. "We've been preaching to our kids to play with a lot of energy from the start of the game to the final second of the game," said Boiling Springs head coach Curtis Nash. "We stress in the locker room and in practices to play defense with a lot of tenacity and making play on offense. I'm really proud of them playing the game like we've been wanting them to play it completely tonight." In the first quarter the Bulldogs took the first lead of the game off a layup by senior guard Austin Faile, but Chesnee battled back to take a 7-5 lead midway through the quarter. Boiling Springs used their defense to finish the quarter on a 7-0 run and take a 12-7 lead at the end of the quarter. Spencer Eison continued the Boiling Springs strong defensive effort to start the second quarter as he stole a Chesnee pass before finishing with a layup to put their lead at 14-7. The Bulldogs extended their halftime lead by hitting some key three-pointers as Tre Locklear, Ketrone Adams, and London Hogan combined to hit four three-pointers to account for twelve of the Bulldogs eighteen points in the quarter. The second half saw the Bulldogs defense have its most impressive performance as they outscored Chesnee 27-7 over the final two quarters of play. Boiling Springs saw 10 of the 15 players on their roster score on Friday night as the Bulldogs got contributions from their entire roster. One of the big plays in the second half came midway through the third quarter when the Bulldogs Julius Camp Jr stole a pass before finishing with a slam dunk amongst a 12-3 run. "It's extremely important for us to get points like that from our whole bench tonight as we preach to them that iron sharpens iron as we're making each other better every day in practice," said Nash. "We know our bench is pretty deep which gives us a pretty good rotation that we feel comfortable with but like we tell the guys we stress there is no let off from one group to another as we want both groups to respond the same way." Austin Faile led the Bulldogs with 11 points to go along with four steals and a rebound. Bulldogs post players Dominique Johnson, Payton Browning, and Camp combined for five blocked shots while Tre Locklear led the team in steals with five of his own. Nash said the play of both Faile and his post players have been key in their early season success. "Austin has been a senior leader for us with his play this season and he loves this game," said Nash. "We lack some size in the post but those guys in the paint have a lot of heart and play hard. In practice when we practice our post play, we really stress to them about being physical." KJ Valentine led the way for Chesnee with eight points, nine rebounds, and two steals as the Eagles were without leading scorer Brady Poole on Friday night due to injury. In the girls' game the Bulldogs got a big game from sophomore Sarah Ezell to grab a 36-28 victory over the visiting Eagles. "It's a good win but we put ourselves in a bind there late as I told the girls we were getting too comfortable and were only a shot or two from letting them back into the game," said Boiling Springs head coach Dwayne Lytle. "Sarah can turn on her game and take over, which she was doing early on, but there late she got into some foul trouble, so I told her she had to be less aggressive, which hurt us some towards the end of the game." Ansley King got the first score of the game for the Bulldogs as she hit a three-pointer from the left side to take an early lead but soon Ezell took over as she scored eight of the Bulldogs remaining 13 points in the quarter to take a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles fought back in the quarter behind a strong first quarter from Brie Smith who scored five of Chesnee's nine points in the quarter. In the second quarter the Bulldogs started off the quarter on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to ten points at 19-9 which started with a layup by King to once again start the Bulldogs scoring. With the Bulldogs leading by ten points, the Eagles Brie Smith cut the lead to eight points as she made a layup as time expired to put the Boiling Springs lead at 24-16 as the teams went to halftime. The eight-point lead was the barrier that seemed to be the wall for the Eagles the rest of the game as they trailed 31-23 at the end of the third quarter and 36-28 when the final buzzer sounded. Sarah Ezell led the Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, three steals, and a block while Ansley King joined Ezell in double figures scoring as she finished the game with 12 points while adding six rebounds. Brie Smith led Chesnee in scoring with 11 points to go along with five rebounds while Pearl Holloway led the team in rebounds with 11 rebounds to go along with six points. Boiling Springs will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Spartanburg while Chesnee will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Chapman for a rematch of Thursday night.
