With all the craziness going on in the world right now it has taken away a lot of normalcy and one of those is the annual spring signing day but even though there wasn't a ceremony in front of family, friends, and coaches there are ten Bulldogs celebrating today, on what was supposed to be their signing day, the continuation of their athletic careers at the college level next season.
The Boiling Springs girls soccer team had four players make their college choices for next season as Kate Johnson signed with Wofford, Cora Brendle signed with USC-Upstate, Elainee Sprinkle signed with North Greenville, and Rylen Beaman signed with Spartanburg Methodist College. Before their senior season ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic the Lady Bulldogs soccer team had started out pretty strong with a strong third place showing in the Viking Cup, an invitational only tournament of the top 32 teams in South Carolina, at Spring Valley High School. Johnson, Sprinkle, and Brendle all entered the 2020 season as returning All-Region players from last season. Meghan Scharpenberg, a member of both the Boiling Springs volleyball and girl's basketball team, signed to continue her college career in volleyball at Spartanburg Methodist College next season. Scharpenberg was a transfer into the Bulldogs program this season but had a remarkable senior season as she passed the 1,000 career point mark in basketball while also passing the 1,000 career dig mark last season, an impressive feat that you can read about here. Joshua Steadman, Hayden Martin, and Nathan Fish were all members of the Boiling Springs cross country team and will be continuing their careers at the next level as well. Steadman will be running for North Greenville University next season while Martin and Fish will both be members of the cross country team at Spartanburg Methodist College next year. The Boiling Springs boys soccer team also had two players sign to continue their careers in college next season as Anthony Ruiz signed with Pensacola Christian College and Victor Valdivia signed with Limestone College. On behalf of the Boiling Springs Sports Journal and the Boiling Springs community we want to wish all these athletes great success in college next year and wish we could have celebrated your accomplishment with you. |
