After almost a full year of no competition the Boiling Springs boys golf team has come into the 2021 season not missing a beat as they started the season with two straight victories as they came away with a victory at the Rebel Invitational on Monday after also winning the Red Raider Invitational last week.
"It's great to be back," said Bulldogs head coach Josh Pruitt. "I was disappointed last year because I felt like our team was geared up to make a deep run but then the season got cancelled. I'm looking forward to our chance this year and even though we struggled some today we still got it done somehow over Dorman by a shot or two just like we did last week at the Red Raider. We're going to build on this." Boiling Springs won the tournament shooting a team score of 300 which was one shot better than second place Dorman and eight shots better than third place Spartanburg. The victory was a team effort as the Bulldogs didn't have one player shoot higher than 84 and had three players (Zach Phillips, Davis Hill, and Easton Keller) shoot a score of 77 on Monday. The Bulldogs were led on Monday by Andrew Gregory, who made the All-Tournament team with a score of 69 that was second only to Dorman's Nathan Franks who scored a tournament low score of 66. "I was hitting the ball really good today," said Gregory. "My wedges were on point and I was just hitting the ball well. It's just so much fun to be back out on the course." Chesnee also competed on Monday and while they were a fell a little behind the Bulldogs score they were just excited to be back on the course this year. "It's tremendous to be back on the course and it's just a beautiful day as well," said Chesnee head coach Andy Pitt. "Just giving our kids a chance to get out and play after missing last year it's just great. It's just special for our kids to get a chance to play their sport this spring." Pruitt added that his players are very hungry to be back on the course as well. "Our guys are hungry to be back," said Pruitt. "They're really into it and you see their emotions flying out there." Boiling Springs will next return to the course on Monday and Tuesday of next week when they compete in the Bengal Invitational at Columbia Country Club while Chesnee will host Broome at Meadowbrook on Thursday.
