After winning a close match on Tuesday against Clover the Boiling Springs tennis team ended up on the opposite end of the results on Thursday afternoon as they fell 4-3 to Fort Mill.
The Bulldogs got a win in the number two seed spot as Sydney Braswell defeated Katie Pierson (1-6, 6-3) winning in the tiebreaker match 10-7. In the four seed match the Bulldogs got a victory when Emma Kotzur defeated Bristol Kershaw (6-1, 6-2) and then took a 3-2 lead when Victoria Leonard defeated Rachel Templeton (6-3, 5-7) with a 11-9 tiebreaker victory in the fifth seed match. With Boiling Springs leading 3-2 the match went to the results of the doubles competitions where Fort Mill’s Clara Lake and Kate Hill (6-2, 6-3) won in number two doubles. The deciding match of the night went to Fort Mill teammates Madison McCarty and Katie Pierson (6-4, 7-6) who won a hard fought battle in number one singles while winning a 10-6 tiebreaker in the final match. Boiling Springs will look to rebound next Thursday when they host region foe Gaffney at 4:30 PM. On Wednesday afternoon the Boiling Springs girls golf team came away with a home match victory against region opponent Gaffney on the same night they honored their two senior golfers.
With the threat of the pandemic still on the front of people's minds, teams are moving many celebrations up to earlier in the season and that includes senior nights for many players. The Boiling Springs girls golf team honored seniors MK Talledo and Faith Nanna on Wednesday by giving them the gift of a 161-179 victory over Gaffney as Talledo fired a 36 and Nanna shot a 42 in front of the home crowd at Woodfin Ridge. The medalist of the match was sophomore Madison Dixon who shot a one under score of 35. Boiling Springs will return to action in the Lady Eagle Tournament at Links of Stoney Point in Greenwood on Monday before traveling to Clover on Tuesday and then finishing the week off in the Lady Rebel Invitational at River Falls on Thursday. On Tuesday afternoon the Boiling Spring tennis team captured an exciting 4-3 win over Clover to pick up a key region victory after picking up a win in the final match of the night. The Bulldogs picked up victories in the top three spots on Tuesday as Madison Ball defeated Morgan Johnson (6-1, 6-1) to win in number one singles followed by Sydney Braswell defeating Zoe Muiruri (6-4, 7-5) in number two singles. In number three singles Emily Krechko defeated Grace Griffith (7-6, 5-7, 11-9) as the Bulldogs swept the top matches in the top three seeds. After Boiling Springs dropped close matches in the four, five, and six seed spots the contest came down to the results of the number one singles where Madison Ball and Sydney Braswell won their second matches of the night defeating Zoe Muiruri and Jaida Foster (1-6, 6-2, 10-8) to give the Bulldogs the victory. "That was a huge region win," said Bulldogs head coach Jill Cooke. "I'm really proud of the team coming away with such a key victory especially Madison, Sydney, and Emily securing the victory late." The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Fort Mill for another region contest. Bulldogs Volleyball Falls At GaffneyOn Tuesday night the Boiling Springs volleyball team fell to Gaffney 3-1 (25-16, 16-25, 17-25, 23-25) in their first match of the season.
The Bulldogs picked up a win in the first set but fell behind early in the following sets and weren't able to come back despite rallies in all three sets including getting within one in the final set. Boiling Springs will return to action on Thursday in another region matchup as they welcome Nation Ford in the Bulldogs first home match of the season. After falling in their first match of the season to Byrnes on Monday afternoon, the Boiling Springs girls golf team didn't waste much more time dusting off the offseason rust as they finished their first week off with back to back wins on Tuesday and Wednesday over Gaffney and Dorman.
"We had a super busy first week with three matches in three days," said Bulldogs head coach Macy Tate. "The girls went 2-1 and I am extremely proud of them. I have seen definite improvement since our first practice and I'm excited to see what they can accomplish this season." Madison Dixon had a great three days for the Bulldogs as she was the medalist in all three matches. Dixon shot a 36 against Byrnes, a 37 against Gaffney, and a 35 on Wednesday afternoon against Dorman. With the win over Gaffney on Tuesday the Bulldogs also pick up their first region win of the 2020 season in their brand new region. "We are looking forward to playing in the Palmetto Preview tournament at Mid-Carolina on Tuesday," said Tate. The Bulldogs will be busy again next week as they start the week off on Tuesday at Mid-Carolina for the Palmetto Preview before hosting Gaffney on Wednesday and traveling to Chesnee on Thursday. |
