Chesnee softball finished off a perfect region season on Thursday night as they defeated Landrum 13-2 to claim the Region II-2A championship. The Eagles players said they were nervous coming into the game because of what it meant but just prepared like normal.
"We were nervous at first but once we calmed down we started playing to the best of our abilities," said Mattie Martin. "We knew it wasn't going to be easy tonight," added senior Ali Scruggs. "We just prepared as a team like we've done all season." With the championship on the line Paige Scruggs pitched a gem for the Eagles as she pitched a complete game striking out thirteen batters while only surrendering two runs. "We wanted to work the corners of the plate inside and outside," said Paige Scruggs. "We wanted to make sure not to leave anything over the middle." Chesnee took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Sam Carver laced a RBI double to bring home Paige Scruggs. The Eagles doubled their lead in the top of the second inning when Ali Scruggs singled home Kyleigh Thompson, who had hit a double that rattled around in the left field corner. Thompson hit another double in the top of the third inning for her second in consecutive innings as this time the two out hit plated two runs to extend the Eagles lead to 4-0 over the Cardinals. The Eagles blew the game open in the top of the fourth inning as they sent ten batters to the plate and scored five runs to take a 9-0 lead. Kyleigh Thompson and Sam Carver each drove in a run with singles while Ali Scruggs drove in her second run with a RBI double. Hannah Henderson collected an RBI after drawing a walk as Mattie Martin also scored thanks to a Cardinal error. Landrum got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 9-1 as Abby Hammer singled and later came around to score. Hannah Henderson collected her second RBI of the game on a single in the top of the sixth inning but Landrum answered in the bottom half of the inning as Mckenzie Suddeth picked up a RBI on a fielder's choice. The Eagles tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh inning as Kyleigh Thompson picked up her fourth RBI of the game with a bases loaded walk before Sam Carver added her third RBI with a single. Callie Burns also picked up a RBI as she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Paige Scruggs struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory and the championship for the Eagles. Ali Scruggs led the way with four hits and two RBIs while also being hit by a pitch. "It felt great to come up big on a night like this," said Ali Scruggs. "I was wanting to hit the ball well tonight like I have all season but tonight just felt different. I was really seeing the ball well and that paid off in the game." Kyleigh Thompson and Sam Carver each finished with three hits and three RBIs while Paige Scruggs reached base four times while also scoring a pair of runs. With the win the Eagles secure a first round home game in the playoffs where they will host the second seed from region II-AA. The Eagles will be back in action on Monday night as the host Broome with a 7:00 PM scheduled first pitch where they will celebrate senior night prior to the game. The Chesnee softball team got a stellar performance from their seniors on both sides of the diamond to defeat Landrum 10-0 in five innings to bring the Eagles one step closer to claiming the Region II-2A championship.
"We wanted this one," said Chesnee head coach Tripp Fogle. "We knew Landrum would be a tough opponent and we got a couple of things that went our way early. Sam (Carver) was dealing in the circle and that allowed us to come away with the win." Senior Sam Carver took care of things in the circle as she pitched a complete game shutout scattering two hits while striking out five. She retired twelve of the final thirteen batters faced. "They only got one hard hit off of her as she had good command of pitches and Hannah (Henderson) did a good job calling the game," said Fogle. "Hannah and Sam were on the same page and that allowed them to control the game." As strong as Carver was pitching on Tuesday night the Eagles also took care of things at the plate as ten different Eagles reached base. "It feels great to work as a team where everybody can contribute and help us earn the win," said Chesnee's Mattie Martin. The Eagles got three runs in the bottom of the first inning as Ali Scruggs and Shenandoah Bishop each hit RBI doubles while Maddie Handy added another run driving in a run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Paige Scruggs added her second run of the game when she hit a solo homerun that went off the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning, as the home run was her eighth of the season which ties her with Ashley Westbrooks for the single season record. "It feels great," said Scruggs about tying the record. "We have worked a lot as a team on hitting the ball hard. Everybody was making adjustments mid at-bat and we have been working on that all year" Ali Scruggs drove in her second run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning give Chesnee a 5-0 lead. Chesnee plated five more runs in the fifth inning to bring the game to an end as they finished with thirteen hits, a walk, and two hit-by-pitches. Maddie Handy and Shenandoah Bishop led off the inning with back to back doubles as Bishop collected a RBI when Handy came around to score.. Kyleigh Thompson and Ali Scruggs each added RBI singles as well. Mattie Martin came away with the biggest hit of the inning as she hit a two-run homer. "To hit a homer in a big game like that was incredible," said Martin. "I was patient, kept my hands back and was able to drive the ball out of the park." The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday night as they travel to Landrum for a 7:00 PM scheduled first pitch where a win would earn the Eagles the region championship. After dropping the first two games against Boiling Springs this season the Chesnee softball team was able to get the last one defeating the Bulldogs 5-1 behind an impressive night from Paige Scruggs.
The Eagles Paige Scruggs and the Bulldogs Olivia Hall were locked in a pitching duel early in the game as neither pitcher allowed a run to score over the first four innings. Hall kept the Eagles off the board in the top of the fifth inning as well giving her team a chance to grab the first lead of the game. AD Raines opened up the bottom of the fifth inning with a single to the right side of the field before moving over to third base when Hailey Owens reached base and moved to second on a Chesnee error. With runners at second and third Bulldogs catcher Ragan Bristol hit a single to centerfield that scored Raines but a strong throw from centerfielder Shenandoah Bishop was able to nab Owens at the plate as the Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead after five innings. Paige Scruggs got the first Chesnee run of the game in the top of the sixth inning when she hit her seventh home run of the season to straight centerfield to tie the game at 1-1 and tied herself for second place in most homeruns in a season by an Eagles player just behind Ashley Westbrooks who had eight in a season twice. Chesnee had runners at second and third base with one out but a strong throw by Bulldogs catcher Ragan Bristol was able to catch the Eagles runner off base at third for the second out of the inning. After the out Chesnee's Shenandoah Bishop was the next batter up and she came up clutch giving the Eagles their first lead of the game by hitting a double to left centerfield which scored Maddie Handy and put Chesnee ahead 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. In the bottom half of the inning the Bulldogs were able to get two runners on with one out but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity sending the game into the final inning with the Eagles still ahead. With two outs and Chesnee's Eva Vaca at second base, Paige Scruggs added to the Eagles lead on a double to left centerfield to give Chesnee a 3-1 lead. Ali Scruggs joined Paige Scruggs on base and both came around to score on a single to right centerfield by Sam Carver to put the Eagles ahead 5-1 heading into the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Bulldogs were able to get the lead runner on but couldn't get anything else going as the Eagles came away with the victory. Chesnee was led at the plate by Ali Scruggs who went three of four for the game while Paige Scruggs and Sam Carver led the team in RBI's with two each on Friday night. Paige Scruggs got the win for the Eagles as she pitched six innings on Friday night only allowing one run and striking out eight batters. Chesnee will be back in action on Tuesday night as they host Landrum in a pivotal game towards capturing a region championship. Boiling Springs will also be back in action on Tuesday night as they return to region play when they travel to Gaffney. On Thursday afternoon the Chesnee golf team returned to the course for the first time since hosting the TC Ezell Invitational on Monday and came away with a sixth place at the Ponderosa Shootout with a team score of 371, at a course many of the players were seeing for the first time.
“I’m proud of our guys today,” said Chesnee head coach Andy Pitt. “They were playing a course that none of them had seen and we’re making progress at the right time. This week, between the TC Ezell and the Ponderosa Shootout, we’ve gained confidence as a team.” Southside Christian came away with the victory shooting a team score of 316 but Chesnee with their score of 371 finished thirty-two shots ahead of seventh place in a field of twelve teams. Chesnee’s Peyton Lawter led the team on Wednesday with a score of 84 tying for tenth place in the tournament. Coach Pitt says he’s proud of the growth he’s seeing in his team especially Lawter. “Peyton had a solid round today,” said Pitt. “He’s playing with a lot of confidence. On a team with little experience before this season, it’s good that the one guy with experience is playing pretty good at the right time of the year. Our other guys are feeding off of his rising confidence. Hughtson Johnson also had a better day today as he cut ten shots off his last score. For a lineup that features so many young guys, we’re encouraged moving forward.” Chesnee will return to the course on Monday in a matchup against Broome at Heddles Hideaway as they prepare for the region tournament on May 3rd. Chesnee used a strong shutout performance by Cole Hoskyns along with a big offensive performance in the first inning to defeat Greer Middle College 12-0 and extend their winning streak to twelve straight games. The win also improves the Eagles record to 7-0 in region play.
Hoskyns tossed a complete game shutout and struckout nine batters as he scattered three hits over seven innings. Hoskyns retired the first nine batters he faced, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning. "I was able to get ahead in the count and maintain control of my fastball,” said Hoskyns. “When they did make contact I had confidence in my defense behind me." Chesnee head coach Scott Wease had nothing but praise for his senior pitcher. "Another great performance from Cole,” said Wease. “Every time he is on the mound we feel like we have a chance to win. He doesn't walk people and makes them put the ball in play. That's all you can ask for from a pitcher." Two good defensive plays helped Hoskyns keep the Blazers off the board as the first came in the bottom of the fourth inning as Hoskyns got Bryson Young to fly out to Jonah Epps who made an excellent throw to Ethan Lawson to nail the runner tagging from third. "I'm just trying to make as many plays to help our team win and continue the winning streak,” said Epps. The second came in the bottom of the fifth inning as Hoskyns picked off a Blazer runner at second base. In an rare situation the Eagles were the away team at Dean Jones Stadium, as the game was moved to Chesnee as the Blazers had a issue with their home field. Chesnee put six runs on the board in the top of the first inning as Michael Paslawski led off with a bunt single before later scoring on a RBI single from Bryson Scruggs. After a Hoskyns double put runners at second and third base, Jonah Epps drove in a run with a RBI single. Ethan Lawson followed by driving in a run via a sacrifice groundout. Davis Rising, Luke Hollifield, and Michael Paslawski each added RBI singles for the Eagles. "Coach (Derek) Byars talks about peaking and doing our best in the game,” said Hoskyns. “We came out with an attitude to play our best from the beginning of the game instead of waiting until later in the game.” Michael Paslawski added another RBI single as he collected his third of what would be four singles in the third inning to increase the Eagles lead to 7-0. The Eagles added five more runs in the fifth inning as Landon Thompson hit a RBI double thanks to hustle and heads up base running. Jonah Epps had the big blast of the night as he sent a pitch over the outfield wall with the bases loaded for a grand slam, which was his first career home run. Epps finished the night three of four with a double and a grand slam along with five RBIs and two runs scored. "I was running hard out of the box as I didn't really know it was going out,” said Epps. “It felt really good and I've had been waiting on that moment for a while." "Jonah has been swinging the bat really well,” said Wease.” He has been taking a really aggressive approach and has been having success with it." The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Broome for a 7:30 PM scheduled first pitch. On Tuesday afternoon with amazing weather surrounding the Meadowbrook Golf Course the Chesnee golf team hosted the first ever TC Ezell Invitational, which was named for the former principal of Chesnee who passed away earlier this year.
After the tournament was over Chesnee head golf coach Andy Pitt announced that through proceeds raised by selling shirts for the tournament they were making a donation to the TC Ezell Scholarship Fund in the amount of $1,100 which Ezell's wife, Sharon Ezell said would have humbled her husband. "He would be so humbled because there were three things he loved: Chesnee High School, students, and golf," said Ezell. "Nothing would have made him happier than to know that as a family and community we were able to do something that helped students. He just always wanted the students to be successful." Current Chesnee principal Angie Ramsey said that there had been many discussions on ways to honor Ezell since his death but that this one seemed to just be the most fitting option. "I think this tournament is just a testament to how many lives that he touched and while he may not be here physically his memory is evermore alive in our community," said Ramsey. "I told Mrs. Ezell that of all the ideas that we've batted around to do in his honor, this one takes the cake because he loved golf, loved our school, and loved our kids. I think he would be so humbled and proud we were able to do this for him." Coach Pitt said that the option to rename their yearly Eagle Invitational golf tournament into the TC Ezell Invitational just seemed like a fitting option and he was glad to see such good golf played on the day they got to honor Mr. Ezell. "Being able to have this tournament in Mr. Ezell's honor, a sport he loved, just seemed fitting," said Pitt. "The family gave us the blessing to continue the tournament in his name and we were able to raise money for the scholarship foundation. Being able to present them with a check in his name made it an all around great day. It was some really good golf from the kids and it tested them with the conditions at times but they were able to overcome those to have successful days. At the end of the day to be able to have this tournament in his honor meant a lot." As far as the competition in the tournament on Tuesday, the Boiling Springs golf team came away with the victory shooting a combined score of 296 behind a tournament low score of 69 by the medalist of the match Andrew Gregory. Fellow Bulldogs Zach Phillips and Clayton Taylor joined Gregory on the All-Tournament team along with Chapman's Ethan Holcombe, Mid Carolina's Luke Hammond, and Gaffney's Ryker Ward. Early in the game on Monday night it looked like the Chesnee softball team was in for a repeat performance against Woodruff, that saw them win a close 1-0 game, but an eight run sixth inning allowed the Eagles to come away with an impressive 9-3 road victory over the Wolverines.
"I told the girls I was proud of them how they battled back tonight," said Chesnee head coach Tripp Fogle. "We had a game at Union earlier this year that was similar to tonight and we were able to bounce back to win that game as well. We had some great at-bats early but Woodruff made some great defensive plays and gave us their best shot early. We were able to string some things together their late to get the win and I couldn't be prouder of the girls." In the top of the first inning Chesnee wasn't able to get anything going at the plate and the Wolverines tried to take advantage early as they loaded the bases with one out in the inning. With the bases loaded Chesnee catcher Hannah Henderson made a great catch on a foul ball behind the plate, as she caught the ball over her left shoulder facing away from the playing field keeping all the Wolverines runners in place. Eagles starting pitcher Sam Carver then induced a fly ball to left field ending the Woodruff rally in the bottom of the first inning without a run crossing home plate. Both teams went scoreless over the first three innings of the game as Carver struck out four different Wolverine batters while Woodruff also made some great defensive plays including an amazing catch by centerfielder Natalie Montjoy as she reached over the outfield wall to take away a homerun away from Paige Scruggs in the third inning, Chesnee started the fourth inning with a single to left field off the bat of Shenandoah Bishop who advanced to second on a Woodruff error. On the next pitch Bishop stole third base putting the Eagles sixty feet away from their first run of the game. Mattie Martin followed Bishop with a walk and after reaching base she stole second base. As Martin stole second base the Woodruff throw to second base got knocked away allowing Bishop to score from third base and giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the fourth inning Woodruff attempted to tie the game back up getting a runner to second base with two outs but an impressive shoestring catch by Bishop in centerfield preserved the Eagles lead. The catch by Henderson in the first inning and Bishop in the fourth inning helped the Eagles keep their early lead and Fogle said impressive defensive plays by those two players wasn't a shock to him. "Hannah and Shenandoah, those two specifically take their defense very seriously," said Fogle. "I may be a little bias but if there's two better in the state I'd like to see them. I'm just proud of them and never surprised by the plays they make." Woodruff finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning as they took a 3-1 lead off the bat of Brooke Bailey. Regan Key started the Wolverines rally with a single to centerfield and advanced to second base on an infield single by Madie Montjoy. With two runners on, Bailey came to the plate hitting a homerun to right centerfield and giving the Wolverines their first lead of the game. Chesnee pitcher Sam Carver bounced back after the homerun striking out the next Wolverines batter while Hannah Henderson made another amazing catch on a foul ball for the final out to keep the Woodruff lead at two runs. The Eagles wasted no time bouncing back as they scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to retake the lead over the Wolverines. Carver started the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second on an infield single by Maddie Handy. With two runners on, Shenandoah Bishop hit a double to left centerfield to score Carver putting the Woodruff lead at 3-2. Mattie Martin followed Bishop with a double to left field to score Handy tying the game at 3-3 with runners still at second and third bases. Henderson worked a walk on the next at-bat to load the bases for the Eagles before Kyleigh Thompson gave the Eagles a 5-3 lead on a double to centerfield scoring both Bishop and Martin. Eva Vaca, who came on to pinch hit in the fifth inning, followed Thompson with a single to centerfield scoring Henderson and pushing the Eagles lead to 6-3 over the Wolverines. Vaca, a senior for the Eagles, said she wasn't surprised by the Eagles rally because they went into the inning with the mindset they weren't going to lose. "We weren't going to allow them to beat us," said Vaca. "We knew they were up but we also knew that with the girls that we have we could come back stronger and it was our game to win." After Vaca reached base, Thompson came in to score on a wild pitch before Vaca scored herself on a sacrifice fly to right field by Paige Scruggs to push the Chesnee lead to 8-3 over Woodruff. Ali Scruggs followed Paige Scruggs with a double to left field before later coming around to score on a groundout to shortstop by Sam Carver, who started the rally for Eagles earlier in the inning. In the sixth inning every Eagles batter that came to the plate either scored a run or came away with a RBI in the inning, with some doing both. Chesnee allowed only one Wolverines batter to reach base over the final two innings of the game as Sam Carver pitched all seven innings for the Eagles on Monday night. Carver struck out five batters and outside of two innings didn't allow a Woodruff batter to get farther than second base. "All of Sam's stuff was working well early she just happened to leave one over the plate against Brooke Bailey, who is a very good hitter and sometimes that happens," said Fogle. "She didn't flinch after the homer though and got the final two outs of that inning and finished the game out strong. She done a great job and I'm just really proud of her." Chesnee will return to the field on Friday when they travel to face fellow district school Boiling Springs in the third matchup between the schools this season. Chesnee baseball picked up their tenth straight win on Thursday night as they defeated St Joseph’s 11-4 to improve to 5-0 in region play. "We want to win one game at a time,” said Chesnee head coach Scott Wease. “We are approaching each game as if it is a championship game. We’re definitely excited to keep winning as that's the goal and to see them keep grinding." Cole Hoskyns picked up the win for the Eagles as he went 5 1/3 innings while only allowing two runs and striking out six. Hoskyns got several big plays defensively but none more impressive than the back to back plays by Jonah Epps. In the top of the fifth inning after the Knights had already plated two runs, Epps nailed a Knight's runner at the plate with an excellent throw from left field that allowed catcher Ethan Lawson to apply the tag. Epps followed that play up with another impressive feat as the next batter lined out to Epps who had to make a diving grab to end the inning. "That was two huge plays,” said Wease. “Jonah is athletic and can play just about anywhere on the field. It's a luxury to be able to have him in left field with a strong arm." After a scoreless inning and a half of play the Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Carson Williamson and Luke Hollifield plated the first two runs on bases loaded walks before Michael Paslawski followed with the big blow of the inning as he hit a two RBI single. Landon Thompson was the fourth of five consecutive batters to collect a RBI as his single drove in Hollifield while Bryson Scruggs capped off the run with a RBI sacrifice fly. Hollifield picked up a second RBI in the bottom of the third inning as he hit a double to drive in Davis Rising. The Knights got on the board in the top of the fifth inning as Brayton Renfrow hit a two-run home run. The Eagles got four runs in response in the bottom half of the inning as Like Hollifield and Michael Paslawski each picked up their third RBIs of the game as Bryson Scruggs picked up his second and third RBIs on a single. St. Joseph’s got a run in the top of both the sixth and seventh innings but it wasn’t enough for the Knights to make the comeback. Logan McMillan hit a RBI double while Brayton Renfrow picked up his third RBI on a sacrifice fly. The Eagles will travel to Greenville to take on the Knights on Friday night to complete the home and home region series with a 7:30 PM scheduled first pitch. Eagles Softball Dominant In Win Over KnightsThe Chesnee softball team went on the road Thursday night to secure themselves a spot in the 2A playoffs with a 21-0 win over St Joseph’s and to stay undefeated in region play.
"It feels great to pick up another win and to continue to keep all of our goals in front of us." said senior Callie Burns. "We went out there with a mindset to play our game and make no mistakes." Fellow Senior Paige Scruggs made sure the Eagles didn't make any mistakes defensively as she didn’t allow a hit over three innings of play and striking out all nine batters she faced. Scruggs also drove in a pair of runs while scoring three times herself. Sam Carver followed her big night last night with five RBIs while Maddie Handy scored four runs and drove in three more. Shenandoah Bishop and Eva Vaca each had two RBIs while Callie Burns, Kyleigh Thompson, and Ali Scruggs each came away with RBIs as well. The Eagles will return the diamond on Monday when they travel to Woodruff for a 7 PM scheduled first pitch. Chesnee baseball picked up their ninth straight win as they downed county foe Broome 11-8 on Wednesday night.
"I'm proud of how they kept battling,” said Chesnee head coach Scott Wease. “Even when we got down by five they handled their business and pulled out the win. They could've folded early but they didn't." Broome scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning as Braxtin Turner scored on a error and Adam Stacy drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. The Centurions tacked on another run in the second inning as Dalton Crawford drove in a run before adding two more runs in the top of the third inning as Tristan Horne collected a RBI on a bases loaded walk and Shane Blackwood also drove in a run. Chesnee responded in impressive fashion as they sent eleven batters to the plate while scoring six runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-5 lead. Ethan Lawson drew a bases loaded walk to score the first run while Elijah Wease, who entered as a courtesy runner for Lawson, later scored on a double steal. Davis Rising and Luke Hollifield each came up with big hits in the inning as the each came away with two RBI doubles. Broome retook the lead as both Braxtin Turner and Jeb Dawson drove in a run in the top of the fourth inning. The Eagles had another explosive inning in the fifth inning as they added five more runs to retake the lead over the Centurions. Chesnee used heads up base running in the inning as Cole Hoskyns collected the lone RBI of the inning for the Eagles. Michael Paslawski stole home while Luke Hollifield, Jonah Epps, and Bryson Scruggs each came around to score on Centurion errors. Broome got a run back in the top of the sixth inning on a Dylan Ramirez RBI single. The Centurions tried to plate two on the play but an excellent throw from left fielder Carson Williamson allowed catcher Ethan Lawson to apply the tag to cut down a Centurion runner. Luke Hollifield followed that stellar defensive play with one of his own as he made a diving grab of a liner that seemed destined for a base hit. "It swung the momentum in our favor and kept a run off the board,” said Wease. “It's always good to see the guys make a great play and the team get excited about it." The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday as they host St Josephs with a 7:30 PM scheduled first pitch. The Chesnee softball team used two dominant performances on the softball diamond to come away with a doubleheader victory over Blacksburg to improve to 5-0 in region play on Wednesday night.
"I challenged them before the game to come out and play hard and with intensity,” said Chesnee head coach Tripp Fogle. “We have a tremendous amount of respect for the Blacksburg program but I don't want anyone to play harder and with more intensity than we do." The Eagles took game one by a score of 14-0 behind a one hit performance in the circle from Maddie Handy. Chesnee plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning as Ali Scruggs and Shenandoah Bishop had the big hits for the Eagles. Scruggs hit a two RBI triple while Bishop hit a two run home run for her first homer of the season. "It was great to get the first one of the season as it seemed to fire us up." Bishop said about her home run. The Eagles tacked on four more in the bottom of the second inning as Sam Carver hit an inside the park three run homer for the big hit of the inning. In the bottom of the third inning the Eagles added four more runs as Maddie Handy and Callie Burns had the big hits as Burns drove in a run on a RBI sacrifice while Handy plated two on a double before later scoring on a wild pitch. Maddie Handy pitched a complete game allowing only one hit with seven strikeouts. In the second game the Eagles came away with a 13-1 win over the Wildcats. In the bottom of the first the Eagles plated nine runs with the big blows being a pair two RBI hits by Mattie Martin and Kyleigh Thompson but the biggest blow came off the bat of Paige Scruggs, who blasted her sixth homer of the season. This time she hit a three run shot for her second homer in as many days. "She is keeping things simple and hitting the ball well,” said Fogle. “All the girls are taking that approach and having success." The Eagles added two more runs in the second off the bat of Shenandoah Bishop who picked up a two out, two RBI double. Blacksburg scored a run in the top of the third inning as Kayla Butler scored on a wild pitch. Mattie Martin hit her second two RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to add to the Eagles lead. Ali Scruggs gave the Eagles a great night from the circle as she pitched a complete game two hitter while striking out five. |
