This has led to a quarterback competition between junior Jacob Kimbrell, sophomore Camden Burns, and freshman Jonah Rollins. and all three made several nice throws at Landrum's seven-on-seven. Chesnee Coach Bill Owens has been pleased with the quarterback competition this summer, "it's been good,. The seven-on-seven has helped as far as that aspect is concerned. It's always good to give a quarterback a chance to get on the field with our receivers going full tilt, and being able to throw the ball off the break. They are where they need to be right now. Obviously the stuff we have seen we have done a lot of good things, but we also have room for improvement like everybody else. Jacob, Jonah, and Camden have all done a good job." Chesnee senior Malik Busby was a two way starter last season for the Eagles butt his season Chesnee will use the athletic senior with a high motor as a Swiss army knife as he will play multiple positions on the field. Coach Owens has high expectations for his senior leader, "Malik is just a great leader and a very unselfish player. We know he can play every down of the game, and that is what we are going to expect from him. He is going to be a true hybrid player for us and more than anything Malik has an incredible heart, you can't control his effort because he only knows one speed." On the coaching side James Davis is joining Chesnee as the new Defensive Coordinator after coaching defensive backs last season at his alma mater Boiling Springs. Coach Davis is an experienced coach with a very well respected reputation in the coaching community. Coach Owens is pleased to be able to add Coach Davis to his staff at Chesnee, "it has been a great fit for us, more than anything Coach Davis is a great man. He has been a good fit for our staff and he is a really good fit for our school. He has been such a positive boost of energy for us defensively with his wealth of knowledge and the way he has fit has been really special for us." Chesnee will be making a change in divisions as well this season as they transition into Region 2-3A. Even though this will be Chesnee's first season in 3A they will be joined in the region by four familiar foes as county rivals Broome and Chapman will be joining the Eagles along with Carolina and Southside. It's been a few seasons since the Eagles have faced the Trojans and the Tigers, but they teams use to meet regularly in region play before they moved up to 3A. Coach Owens is looking forward to the challenge of moving to 3A, "We were talking to the guys last week and really all that has happened to us is that we have flipped our schedule. Last season we played a pure 3A non-region schedule and it worked out well for us. It is flipping this year as we have some 2A teams on the non-region schedule." Reagan Looks Forward to Senior Season in 2018 Kyler Reagan had a tremendous junior season on the football field. Reagan earned All- Region honors, and he also received many weekly honors for his 500 yard and 5 touchdown performance against Christ Church and his performance against Berea. Reagan is hoping to build off of that momentum going into his senior year, "it's huge for me (having the success last year), it is definitely slowing the game down a lot for me. I'm excited to see to see how this year goes, but last year's success is definitely a confident booster." Reagan said.
Unfortunately for Reagan his junior baseball season did not go the way he would've liked, and an injury will sideline him for the first few weeks of the season.Chesnee Head Coach Bill Owens is excited to have Reagan back, but is looking forward to getting him back on the field after he is cleared, "it is great having Kyler back, but we are going to have to see how everything progresses from his injury. If he is not at quarterback he will be somewhere on the field. His sophomore year he started at wide receiver, and last year he showed what he could do when he tucks it and runs." Owens Said. Reagan is looking forward to having a successful senior year, "I want to go out of Chesnee leaving a good foot print, and help build the program for the younger guys." Reagan said. Chesnee has several strong senior leaders this season including Reagan. Coach Owens is pleased to have such strong senior leadership, "this whole senior class has done a good job of leading. That is always a critical element on every team. It is a senior's team, an underclassmen don't understand what it is like to be a senior. The underclassmen don't grasp this is last time you will do what are doing on a particular day. The seniors have grabbed ahold of that, and they do a good job of communicating with me and leading the locker room." Owens said. Reagan said one key to his success is family support especially his parents Tim and Kristy Reagan, "that is the biggest part of my game just always knowing they will be up in the stands cheering me on."
