Chesnee baseball picked up their tenth straight win on Thursday night as they defeated St Joseph’s 11-4 to improve to 5-0 in region play. "We want to win one game at a time,” said Chesnee head coach Scott Wease. “We are approaching each game as if it is a championship game. We’re definitely excited to keep winning as that's the goal and to see them keep grinding." Cole Hoskyns picked up the win for the Eagles as he went 5 1/3 innings while only allowing two runs and striking out six. Hoskyns got several big plays defensively but none more impressive than the back to back plays by Jonah Epps. In the top of the fifth inning after the Knights had already plated two runs, Epps nailed a Knight's runner at the plate with an excellent throw from left field that allowed catcher Ethan Lawson to apply the tag. Epps followed that play up with another impressive feat as the next batter lined out to Epps who had to make a diving grab to end the inning. "That was two huge plays,” said Wease. “Jonah is athletic and can play just about anywhere on the field. It's a luxury to be able to have him in left field with a strong arm." After a scoreless inning and a half of play the Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Carson Williamson and Luke Hollifield plated the first two runs on bases loaded walks before Michael Paslawski followed with the big blow of the inning as he hit a two RBI single. Landon Thompson was the fourth of five consecutive batters to collect a RBI as his single drove in Hollifield while Bryson Scruggs capped off the run with a RBI sacrifice fly. Hollifield picked up a second RBI in the bottom of the third inning as he hit a double to drive in Davis Rising. The Knights got on the board in the top of the fifth inning as Brayton Renfrow hit a two-run home run. The Eagles got four runs in response in the bottom half of the inning as Like Hollifield and Michael Paslawski each picked up their third RBIs of the game as Bryson Scruggs picked up his second and third RBIs on a single. St. Joseph’s got a run in the top of both the sixth and seventh innings but it wasn’t enough for the Knights to make the comeback. Logan McMillan hit a RBI double while Brayton Renfrow picked up his third RBI on a sacrifice fly. The Eagles will travel to Greenville to take on the Knights on Friday night to complete the home and home region series with a 7:30 PM scheduled first pitch. Eagles Softball Dominant In Win Over KnightsThe Chesnee softball team went on the road Thursday night to secure themselves a spot in the 2A playoffs with a 21-0 win over St Joseph’s and to stay undefeated in region play.
"It feels great to pick up another win and to continue to keep all of our goals in front of us." said senior Callie Burns. "We went out there with a mindset to play our game and make no mistakes." Fellow Senior Paige Scruggs made sure the Eagles didn't make any mistakes defensively as she didn’t allow a hit over three innings of play and striking out all nine batters she faced. Scruggs also drove in a pair of runs while scoring three times herself. Sam Carver followed her big night last night with five RBIs while Maddie Handy scored four runs and drove in three more. Shenandoah Bishop and Eva Vaca each had two RBIs while Callie Burns, Kyleigh Thompson, and Ali Scruggs each came away with RBIs as well. The Eagles will return the diamond on Monday when they travel to Woodruff for a 7 PM scheduled first pitch. Comments are closed.
