In front of a large crowd that came out to honor the 2021 Boiling Springs senior girls soccer players, it was only fitting that one of the seniors had a career night as Skylar Young recorded a hat trick to give the Bulldogs a 5-0 victory over the Gaffney Indians. The Bulldogs honored seven seniors on Wednesday night: Cass Austin, Sami Ewing, Victoria Hines, Claire Ladouceur, Jasmine Onufer, McKenna Wilson, and Skylar Young.
"I'm just really proud of our seniors because they've all worked so hard to be here and to come up through our system since seventh graders building the program the last few years into what it is now," said Boiling Springs head coach Jonathan Burnett. "I'm proud of them and how they played the whole game tonight, it was just a really special night." While Young led the Bulldogs on Tuesday night, it was a combination by two other seniors that gave Boiling Springs their first lead of the game. Sami Ewing gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at the seventeen minute mark when she found the bottom right of the net after receiving an entry pass to the left side of the goal from fellow senior McKenna Wilson who was twenty yards away on the other side of the field. Gaffney attempted to even the score up a few minutes later as they got behind the Bulldogs defense but a great sliding save by goalie Abby Fisher managed to keep the Bulldogs ahead. After the save by Fisher, Skylar Young started her big night as she herself was able to break behind the Gaffney defense where she found herself with a one-on-one matchup with the goalie in which she juked left before finding the back right of the net with a right footed shot to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 at the thirty-one minute mark of the first half. "After I scored that first goal of the night I could feel my confidence starting to grow and I felt like it could be the start of a good game," said Young. With less than two minutes to go in the first half Young combined with her goal scoring counterpart Sami Ewing to pick up her second goal of the game as Ewing broke in from the left corner of the field to find Young in front of the goal for a left footed shot that found the back of the Gaffney net to put Boiling Springs ahead 3-0 as they went into halftime. It didn't take long into the second half to complete the hat trick but it did take a little good fortune. Just nine minutes into the second half the Bulldogs were making another attack on the Gaffney goal as a Bulldogs player took a shot that ricocheted off the right goal post directly to the foot of Young who then fired a right footed shot that found the back of the Gaffney net to put the Bulldogs up 4-0 and give Young three goals for the night. "Skylar had two goals at halftime and the girls started coming off the field talking about possible hat tricks," said Burnett. "For her to actually accomplish that, it's not easy. I'm just so excited for Skylar to have one of her last nights on this field to be such a positive one." Young said to come away with a hat trick on her senior night was a great accomplishment and it showed how well her team was playing as one. "It means a lot especially coming on our senior night," said Young. "We all finally came together after a couple of rough games and played well together. It just means a lot to be able to come away with a win on our senior night." The Bulldogs added a fifth goal at the fifty-three minute mark of the game when sophomore Drey Nesbitt received a cross to left side of the goal from junior Shiloh Worth before using a left footed shot to find the back of the net giving the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead. Boiling Springs will return to action on Friday night in another home region match against Nation Ford. After falling in penalty kicks on Monday night the Boiling Springs boys soccer team rebounded with a victory over Nation Ford winning 3-2 in penalty kicks on Wednesday night to finish their first half of region play with a 2-2 record.
"Soccer is an interesting game and it's hard to play from behind but this team has been behind every game this year and come back to have chances to win or tie the games," said Bulldogs head coach Jack Underwood. "This is the first competitive game we've started out without giving up an early goal but that's common in high school soccer. We played our game and had our chances early but finished it off in penalty kicks and got the win. We look to keep this play up throughout the rest of region play." Both teams battled in a game of possession throughout regulation with Boiling Springs getting some counter opportunities in the first half while their biggest play came late in the second half as they got a great look at the goal but an impressive save by the Falcons goalkeeper kept the Bulldogs off the board. While the Bulldogs were attacking the Falcons goal Nation Ford attempted some counters themselves but were unable to find the back of the net thanks to some impressive play by Bulldogs goalie Jayce Lamb who registered nine saves during regulation play. While it was impressive, Lamb saved his best performance for last. After two five minutes overtime halves resulted no goals for either team it led to penalty kicks to decide the winner. Nation Ford was the first team up and a shot to left of the goal was deflected by Bulldogs goalie Jayce Lamb to give Boiling Springs an early advantage. Yonathan Gonzalez gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead when he found the back of the net on the Bulldogs first penalty kick. Lamb almost made it two saves in a row but the referee ruled he left early allowing the Nation Ford shooter a second chance which he took advantage of to tie the game at 1-1. The Falcons took a 2-1 lead on their next shot as the Bulldogs were unable to find the net on two straight shots. With the Bulldogs trailing 2-1 Lamb came up big not allowing Nation Ford to score on two straight penalty kicks which Coach Underwood said didn't surprise him in the least bit. "Jayce is probably arguably the best goalkeeper in the state of South Carolina," said Underwood. "His understanding of the game and his leadership is unbelievable which is one of the biggest attributes that he has and while he's a great goalkeeper he is a great leader in organizing our back line throughout the game. That attribute is something you don't see often in high school, that's things you see more from college and professional players." While Lamb was able to hold the Falcons out of the goal it was up to their offense to get on the board themselves. Peyton Pressley found the back of the net to tie the game for the Bulldogs at 2-2 and after Lamb made his second consecutive stop the game down to the Bulldogs leading scorer sophomore Christian Gonzalez-Calihua. As Gonzalez-Calihua made his way toward the goal he fired a shot to the upper left side of the net that whizzed past the goalkeeper who dove to the left side but was unable to get to the ball giving the Bulldogs the victory. "Penalty kicks are very mental and difficult," said Underwood. "Christian has one of our strongest legs on our team and so I try to keep the pressure low on our players because I know after 35 years of coaching anything can happen on a penalty kick." Boiling Springs will return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Gaffney as they begin the second half of their region schedule. On Wednesday morning in front of a group of family, friends, coaches, and teachers nine Boiling Springs students signed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level next season. With the nine athletes signing on Wednesday it brings the total number of Bulldogs to sign to play at the collegiate level next season to 28 players.
The Boiling Springs softball team had three different players sign on Wednesday with Olivia Hall, Hailey Owens, and Ragan Bristol all signing. Hall will be signing to continue her career at USC-Upstate next season where she will be majoring in criminal justice with a minor in business. Hall, the Bulldogs starting pitcher the last three seasons, was named region player of the year in 2018 and currently leads the team with 46 strikeouts. She said that she's looking forward to going to a school that can give her a great education along with playing softball at a high level. "I'm very excited about my upcoming years getting to play at a great school with an outstanding business program," said Hall. "I love to compete and win. To know that I'm going to a school next year that believes they can compete with schools in the SEC, like Georgia who they're playing today, is so exciting to me and I can't wait to be a part of it." Ragan Bristol and Hailey Owens will also be continuing their softball careers next year at Limestone College. Bristol, who is leading the Bulldogs currently with a batting average of .514, has been playing for the Boiling Springs varsity team since seventh grade where she has earned All-Region honors while serving as the Bulldogs catcher. She says that she will be majoring in nursing at Limestone and she said that the recent addition of that major and the location of the school helped her make her decision. "Limestone is just now getting a nursing program and it's not far from home which I'm excited about," said Bristol. "It's not too far away but far enough away to get away. When I went to visit they say 'You Know' and when I heard that I just knew it was the place for me. You can't find a better coaching group than Coach Yates and Coach Hayes and the team was so friendly, it was like a family." Owens, who is tied for the team lead in homeruns and also has ten strikeouts in eleven innings pitched, has been a member of the Bulldogs program since her seventh grade year. She said that her decision to choose Limestone, where she plans to major in mathematics education, was based on the feel of family she felt when visiting the campus. "I'm very excited about getting an opportunity to continue my softball career along with getting a great education in mathematics at Limestone so I can become a high school math teacher," said Owens. "They play as a family at Limestone and the coaches are just a great group." The Boiling Springs lacrosse team also had three players commit to colleges on Wednesday as Lukus Olsen, Andrew Hollifield, and Adam Dulske all signed their letters of intent. Olsen has been a member of the Bulldogs varsity lacrosse team for the last three years but also competed for the Bulldogs swim team where he made the state championship meet. He was a captain on both teams and has decided to continue his career at Young Harris College where he will be majoring in business management. Olsen says that the location of the school and the coach were big factors in his decision. "It's a gorgeous campus in the foothills of the mountains of Georgia with great hiking trails and a beautiful lake but I wouldn't want to play for any coach other than Coach Herring," said Olsen. "The school is located in a small town named Young Harris and the small town feel with locally owned businesses and restaurants is the kind of atmosphere I was looking for and it just felt like home." Andrew Hollifield will be continuing his lacrosse career at North Greenville University, where he plans to major in secondary education with a minor in history, next season after spending the last four years as a member of the Boiling Springs varsity team. He said that the smaller college feel and the coaching staff were key factors in his decision. "It's a smaller college with very good programs and a great weight room along with an out-of-this-world coaching staff which just makes a great environment," said Hollifield. "As a goalie their head coach was a goalie as well at Seton Hall where he was a very successful and I'm looking forward to learning from him and competing for him." Adam Dulske, who has been a member of the Bulldogs varsity program for four years, will continue his lacrosse career at Emmanuel College in Georgia where he will look to major in kinesiology. Dulske said that the small town feel along with the opportunity to continue his lacrosse career were two of his biggest reasons for making his decision. I'm very excited to get around the people and pick up a lot of wins," said Dulske. "It's a small college and I like that because you get the opportunity to get close to people. The whole campus just has a closeness about it." The Boiling Springs football team also had two players sign on Wednesday morning as Cameron Mills and Justin Corbitt signed to continue their careers at the college level next season. Mills, a two year letterman for the Bulldogs varsity program, will be continuing his career at Carson-Newman next season where he plans on majoring in physical therapy. Mills led the Boiling Springs rushing attack this past season with 462 yards rushing despite missing part of the season, including a 231 yard game against Clover in the second game of the season. He said that the opportunity to be a part of a winning program along with the comfort he felt at the school made Carson-Newman the school for him. "I can't wait to be there," said Mills. "It's a winning program and I can't wait to get up there and work. The coaches are a great group of guys who just made me feel at home when I was there." Justin Corbitt will be continuing his football career at North Greenville University after a successful two years at defensive end as well as long snapper for the Bulldogs. Corbitt was a key part in a strong defense for the Bulldogs this past that season including a game in which they held Fort Mill to negative 41 yards rushing. He said that the decision was a big one for him but he just felt comfortable at North Greenville, where he plans on majoring in mathematics engineering. "It was a big decision but when I went to North Greenville it just felt like the place for me," said Corbitt. "It's close to home and the community is super close knit. I feel like I can go there and earn a spot on the team." Jasmine Onufer will look to continue her soccer career at Converse College next season. Onufer is a three year varsity letterman and has been a part of the Bulldogs program since her seventh grade year. She said the campus along with the coaches weighed in her decision to attend Converse where she wants to major in sports medicine. "The campus is beautiful and the community is just so close knit," said Onufer. "I love the coach and the campus just felt like family. My sister also goes there which makes it feel even more like family." The old saying that a team didn't lose, they just ran out of time is the best way to describe the Boiling Springs lacrosse team's rally against Nation Ford as they fell 16-13 after trailing by as much as nine on Tuesday night.
"Our kids have been battling all season and our season has come down to just needing a few extra minutes and tonight was just another one of those nights," said Bulldogs head coach Justin Mills. "Every guy on our bench fought tonight and played well. That's all you can ask for from your team, we just need a few extra minutes." Boiling Springs trailed at the end of the first quarter 5-2 with their only goals coming from Luke Olson and a goal from Riley Alfonso, who stole a Nation Ford pass behind their goal before finding the left side of the goal off a right handed shot. The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the second quarter to narrow the Nation Ford lead to 5-3 off a goal from Olsen after Micah Horton took the faceoff down the right side of the field before finding Olsen for the shot. After the first goal of the second quarter it was all Nation Ford as they outscored the Bulldogs 7-0 the rest of the quarter to take a 12-3 halftime lead. Boiling Springs cut the lead to 14-7 heading into the final quarter as they outscored the Falcons 4-2 in the third quarter as they got two goals each from both Riley Alfonso and Brock Davis. Micah Horton started the Bulldogs off with a strong fourth quarter by claiming the opening faceoff before racing down the right side and finding Ethan Westhall in front of the goal for a right handed shot that found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 14-8. With just under six minutes left in the game Luke Calderon took a shot off an assist from Mathis Oslund to narrow the Nation Ford lead to 14-9. Nation Ford responded with two goals over a forty second period from both Tyler Maloney and Ryan Walczak to push their lead back to seven at 16-9 over the Bulldogs. With just over four minutes left to go in the game the Bulldogs started their rally as Brock Davis found the back of the net on a shot that deflected off the Falcons goalie to cut the lead to 16-10. Davis struck again taking a rebound off a shot by Horton and finding the back of the net on a right handed shot just inside the three minute mark to cut the lead to 16-11 as the Bulldogs continued their offensive attack. Just thirty seconds after Davis' last goal Mathias Oslund found the back of the net to cut the lead to 16-12 and was followed just seconds later by another goal from Olsen to cut the lead to 16-13. Boiling Springs continued their offensive onslaught over the next few seconds but a penalty gave possession to Nation Ford who was able to melt clock as the Bulldogs just ran out of time. The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday as they host Fort Mill in a game that can control their playoff destiny. On Monday afternoon the Boiling Springs tennis team improved their record in region play to 3-1 by defeating Gaffney 5-1 in a makeup match to continue their pursuit of a 5A playoff spot.
"Coming from one of the strongest regions in the state to this one a being able to hold our own we're putting ourselves in great position to be considered for the playoffs in three or four years," said Bulldogs head coach Caleb Weathers. "After defeating Clover twice and coming away with this victory tonight we feel pretty good about our chances right now." Boiling Springs got the afternoon started with a victory in number one singles as the Bulldogs lone senior Rishi Patel defeated Gaffney's Anson Chau (6-3, 6-4). Coach Weathers said that the leadership that Patel has brought to the team has been key to their success this season and the foundation being built for years to come. "He's just a natural leader and everybody just looks up to him," said Weathers. "I tell them being successful at this sport you have to put in more than I can give you in just the two hours of practice we get each day and he has taken that to heart setting up a group text among the team, including our JV players, to meet up every weekend and playing tennis. I was gone during spring break but those guys all got together throughout the break to compete and get better which is a direct result of his leadership." Cam Beckstrom came away with a win in number two singles with a (6-1, 6-1) victory over Luke Hagle. Seth Evans and Nate Miller both came away with straight set victories (6-0, 6-0) in both the number three and number five singles in their respected matches on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs number two doubles team of Robert Raynor and Sam Corbitt also came away with a straight set victory (6-0, 6-0) over Gaffney's Brandon Shiflett and Peyton Bingham. Boiling Springs will look to continue their push to the playoffs on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Fort Mill for another region matchup. The Boiling Springs baseball returned from spring break showing little rust from the week long break as they jumped back into region play to defeat Fort Mill 6-0 on Monday night. Will Holmes led the Bulldogs on the mound going six innings while not allowing a run and striking out twelve different Yellow Jackets batters. In the top of the first inning Holmes struck out the first Yellow Jackets batter in the game to set the tone of the game early. Fort Mill was able to get a baserunner on via a walk but that runner was thrown out trying to score when right fielder Luke Compton made a strong throw beating the Yellow Jackets baserunner to home plate for the third out of the inning. After keeping Fort Mill off the board to start the game the Boiling Springs bats took advantage of their opportunity in the bottom half of the first inning as Davis Starnes started off the game with a single to left field before stealing second base on the next at-bat. Starnes came around to score on a Tristan Smith single to left centerfield to give the Bulldogs their first of two runs in the inning as they took a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. The two runs turned out to be more than enough for the Bulldogs on Monday night as Holmes continued his solid work from the mound. Holmes pitched the next two innings striking out four Yellow Jackets batters, inducing a flyball to centerfield and the only batter that reached base was on a hit-by-pitch that was later thrown out stealing by Bulldogs catcher Vance Wagner. Boiling Springs added two more runs in each of the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to push their lead to 6-0 after five innings. Avery Stewart led all the Bulldogs bats going three for three in the game while Holmes and Starnes both led the Bulldogs in runs scored as they both scored two runs each. Jimmy Rosengrant, Brent Fowler, Jamison Bagwell, and Holmes all had RBIs for the Bulldogs on Monday night. After Holmes left the game at the end of the sixth inning, Boiling Springs turned the game over to Dylan Anderson who struck out two Yellow Jackets batters including the last batter for the final out of the game. With the win the Bulldogs move into first place in Region III-5A and will look to build on that lead when they travel to Fort Mill on Wednesday for the second game of the three game series. Bulldogs Soccer Falls In Penalty KicksOn Monday night the Boiling Springs and Fort Mill boys soccer teams competed in a back and forth matchup that neither team deserved to lose as both teams were tied 1-1 after regulation along with two overtime periods but the Yellow Jackets came away with the victory after coming away with a 4-3 victory in penalty kicks. Fort Mill took an early lead on a shot just outside the box that navigated itself through the Bulldogs defense to find the bottom left corner of the net giving the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead at the twenty-nine minute mark of the first half. Boiling Springs responded at the seventeen minute mark of the first half when junior Christian Gonzalez-Calihua broke behind the Yellow Jackets defense off a pass from midfield by Isaiah Maldenado. After catching up to the pass Gonzalez-Calihua broke down the left side of the Fort Mill defense before taking a left footed shot that found the top right of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams battled through the second half attacking each goal as the Bulldogs shots went just wide of the Yellow Jackets goal while Boiling Springs goalie Jaycee Lamb made some great saves including two in the last six minutes of regulation to help preserve the tie for the Bulldogs. In overtime despite many close attempts the Bulldogs just couldn't find the right touch to get the ball into the net, as they possessed the ball the majority of the period. Boiling Springs will look to rebound on Wednesday when they host Nation Ford in a region matchup that is a makeup game of a game that was postponed prior to spring break. Bulldogs Softball Falls To FalconsThe Boiling Springs softball team fell 9-3 to Nation Ford in their first matchup since returning from spring break on Monday night.
Nation Ford used two big innings to defeat the Bulldogs as they scored three runs in the first inning and another six in the fourth inning to come away with the victory. The Bulldogs narrowed the Falcons lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning after Olivia Hall scored on an error in the third inning and then Grace Geddes scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning. AD Raines tripled to left field in the top of the fifth inning before scoring on a double to centerfield by Hall to make the score 9-3 but the six run fourth inning was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. Boiling Springs will look to rebound on Friday as they host Clover in another region matchup. On Monday the Boiling Springs baseball team welcomed spring break with a double header against Union County as they defeated the Yellow Jackets 12-11 in the nightcap after falling 4-2 in the earlier game.
"As bad as we played in the first game we still had a chance and went into that final inning down five in the seventh inning of the second game but it says a lot about these kids that they don't quit," said Bulldogs head coach Jeff Lipscomb. "As the second half of the season comes around if they don't quit and just keep battling who knows where that will take us." In game one the Bulldogs were down 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning but a flair hit to left field by Avery Stewart that dropped between the shortstop and leftfield allowed two Boiling Springs runners to score and tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the eighth inning Union took advantage of Boiling Springs errors to take the lead and walk away with a 4-2 victory. Union started game two scoring taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Willie Jeter and Bryant Whitlock that scored both Jeter and TJ Betenbaugh, who reached base on a single of his own. Boiling Springs responded in the bottom half of the inning as Hudson Wilson reached base on a walk before moving to third on a double to right centerfield by Davis Starnes. Wilson came around to score on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Tristan Smith before Starnes also scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Will Holmes to tie the game at 2-2 when the first inning came to an end. The Yellow Jackets scored in four straight innings to start the game as they pushed their lead to 9-2 when the top of the fourth inning came to an end. After having their bats silenced over the second and third innings the Bulldogs bats started battling back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Holmes started the inning working a walk before moving to third on a double right centerfield by Jamison Bagwell. Brent Fowler followed Bagwell by working another walk to load the bases before Holmes came around to score when Jackson Reels was hit by a pitch to narrow the Yellow Jackets lead to 9-3. Bagwell cut the lead to 9-4 when he scored on a wild pitch to Richie Lewis before Jimmy Rosengrant, who was pinch running for Fowler, came around to score when Lewis hit a ball to first base as the Bulldogs cut the lead to 9-5 after four innings. In the top of the sixth inning Union extended their lead to 11-5 after Betenbaugh and Jeter, who both reached base on singles, came around to score on a single by Whitlock. The Bulldogs cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Bagwell was hit by a pitch and later come around to score on a single to right centerfield by Jackson Kostiuk to put Union's lead at 11-6 heading into the seventh inning. After keeping Union off the board in the top of the seventh inning the Bulldogs bats erupted as they faced what could have been their last at-bats of the game. With one out Davis Starnes reached base on a walk and moved to second on a single to right field by Tristan Smith. Both runners moved to second and third on a wild pitch to Will Holmes before Holmes loaded the bases by reaching base on a walk. With the bases loaded Jamison Bagwell crushed a Yellow Jackets pitch to deep left field for a grand slam to cut the Union lead to 11-10 with only one out in the inning. Brent Fowler followed the grand slam with a walk and Jimmy Rosengrant, who was running for Fowler, moved to third base on a single to right field by Jackson Reel. Rosengrant tied the game at 11-11 on a sacrifice fly to right field by Vance Wagner to send the game into extra innings. Union was able to load the bases in the top of the eighth inning but clutch relief pitching by the Bulldogs Garrett Willford and Carter Sloand kept the Yellow Jackets off the board along with setting the Boiling Springs offense up for a chance to win the game. Hudson Wilson started the bottom of the eighth inning getting hit by a pitch and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Starnes before stealing third base. With Wilson at third Tristan Smith hit a flyball to right field that allowed Wilson to score the winning run just ahead of a strong throw from the Union right fielder. "As a coach you want your kids to learn life lessons through sports as well and tonight our guys learned if you don't quit and keep fighting things may just go your way," said Lipscomb. "Our guys kept fighting and Bagwell was able to come up with the big hit. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the second half of the season to help us win a region championship and a state championship which is our goal." Boiling Springs will return to action after spring break when they host Fort Mill on April 12th to start a three game region series. As a cold front welcomed the people of upstate South Carolina to April on Thursday evening, Will Holmes had a similar welcoming to the Nation Ford bats at Bulldogs Park on Thursday night as the Bulldogs defeated the Falcons 2-1 to win the region series between the two teams.
Boiling Springs made quick work of the Falcons in the top of the first inning as they allowed a walk to the leadoff batter before getting an out on a sacrifice bunt and then getting a great double play that started on a line drive to third baseman Davis Starnes before doubling off the leadoff batter at second base. After a strong start in the top of the first inning the Bulldogs didn't waste time taking advantage of their momentum in the bottom of the first inning. Starnes started the Boiling Springs side of the first inning with a single to the right side of the field and advancing to second base on a Falcons error to put himself in scoring position for the Bulldogs. Tristan Smith followed Starnes with a single to left field allowing Starnes to come around to score and give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead after the first inning. In the top of the second inning the Falcons scored their only run of the game when Justin Lehman reached base on a walk, stole second and third base, before coming around to score on a Bulldogs error to tie the game at 1-1. While the Falcons were able to score a run on an error, Bulldogs pitcher Will Holmes still hadn't allowed a hit and that's a trend he continued throughout his five and two thirds innings he pitched. Holmes finished the game in the sixth inning with two outs not allowing a hit while striking out twelve Nation Ford batters. After both teams were held quiet through the middle part of the game, the Bulldogs gave Holmes the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning behind some patient at-bats and a Falcons error. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning Tristan Smith worked a walk before advancing to second on a Falcons error to put two Bulldogs runners on base. With Smith on second base, after the error that also saw Holmes also reach base, Smith advanced to third on a passed ball before coming around to score on a single by Jamison Bagwell to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1 over the Falcons. Carter Sloand, who has been pitching well in relief for the Bulldogs, came on in the bottom of the sixth inning to take over for Holmes. Sloand continued his impressive pitching for Boiling Springs picking up the save over one and a third innings while also striking out a Falcons batter. Aaron Pendergast picked up the only hit for Nation Ford in the top of the seventh inning with one out on a double to left centerfield before Sloand retired the rest of the Falcons batters. With the win Boiling Springs improves to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in region play as they get ready to enter spring break but the Bulldogs still have two more games before that break arrives. The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday in a home doubleheader against Union County with the first game scheduled to start at 1:00 PM and the second game to follow at 4:00 PM. |
