The Region III-5A wrestling championships was held on Saturday at Fort Mill High School where Boiling Springs captured an individual region championship along with two runner-up finishes.
In their first championship matches in the new region, one known for strong wrestlers, Boiling Springs saw senior Drayton Wines walk away with the individual region championship at heavyweight where he defeated Clover's Isaiah Plummer in the finals. Boiling Springs also got impressive performances from two sophomores as Ayden Whisler and Tristan Ellison captured runner-up finishes at the region championship. Whisler finished second at 113 after falling to Fort Mill's Sebastian Colon in the finals and Ellison finished second at 170 after falling to Clover's Asa Watson in the finals match. "We took a very young squad to Fort Mill today and was just looking to get some mat time with the limited amount of matches we've been able to get this year," said Bulldogs head coach Lee Thomas. "We'll get back to work this week this week getting ready for our last dual of the year on Thursday and look to preparing our three qualifiers for Upper State in a few weeks." The Bulldogs wrestling team will compete in their final match on Thursday at home against Greenwood. Wines, Whisler, and Ellision will compete for the Upper State championships on February 19-20 at Nation Ford High School. Comments are closed.
