The first Boiling Springs drive of the game saw the Bulldogs get right to midfield before a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by Gaffney set the tone for the rest of the game as the Bulldogs fell 42-14 to the Gaffney Indians on Friday night.
"We made too many mistakes tonight," said Bulldogs head coach Rick Tate. "You can't make that many mistakes against a good football team and that's exactly what we done tonight." The turnover bug seemed to have taken ahold of the Bulldogs on Friday night as they committed four turnovers plus a blocked punt that all led to Gaffney points on Friday night. Already leading 7-0, Gaffney added to their lead in the first quarter after another turnover when Quez Smith ran the ball in from fifteen yards out to score one of his four touchdowns on Friday night. At the start of the second quarter the Boiling Springs offense got their first score of the game when quarterback Aaron Thomas found wide receiver Chance Guest on a twenty-two yard touchdown pass to make the lead 14-7 in favor of Gaffney. After another touchdown run by Smith to extend the Gaffney lead to 21-7, the Boiling Springs offense struck again when Thomas found wide receiver Caden Peeler on an eight yard touchdown pass to give the Indians a 21-14 halftime lead. Gaffney would outscore the Bulldogs 21-0 in the second half behind two more touchdown runs by Quez Smith and a six yard touchdown run by the Indians running back Ray Johnson. While the loss was a tough one for the Bulldogs they still have a chance to claim third place in the region with a victory over Byrnes in the regular season finale next Friday night. "It's Byrnes and it's going to be another great football team in this region," said Coach Tate. "We'll need to regroup this week and get after it on Friday." Byrnes defeated Hillcrest 42-35 on Friday night as they scored twenty-three points in three minutes during the fourth quarter against the Rams. Comments are closed.
