BOILING SPRINGS, SC - On Thursday morning in front of a large crowd of family and friends seven Boiling Springs athletes signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the college level next season.
The Bulldogs saw three girl's soccer players, two girl's lacrosse players, a volleyball player, and a swimmer sign on Thursday morning. The first player to sign on Thursday was Boiling Springs volleyball player Logan Kenny who signed to continue her athletic career at Washington College in Maryland next season where she plans on majoring in psychology and criminal justice. Kenny, a middle hitter and blocker on the volleyball team, finished her high school career with 255 kills and 159 blocks and finished this past season leading the region in block kills. Kenny said that "It's a small school that doesn't feel like a small school," said Logan Kenny. "I loved the girls there and when I went to visit, just seeing the way they played made me want to go there. Everybody on campus was just so nice." Bulldogs' swimmer Will Humphreys signed to continue his swimming career at Carson-Newman next season where he plans on majoring in a degree in the medical field. Humphreys was a three-time All-Region swimmer during his time with Boiling Springs that included first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle this past season. He also finished his senior year with All-State honors after finishing with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle and a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle. He said that the connection he felt with the coach at Carson-Newman as well as the similarity he felt with the way they trained were key decisions in the reason he made Carson-Newman his choice. "I chose Carson-Newman because I had a great conversation with the coach and really connected with him," said Will Humphreys. "I really connected with him on his training ideas and his plans for my future just made me feel at home from that first conversation. I already train similarly to how they do and that just made me pumped to go there." Humphreys said that he's proud of the legacy that he's leaving behind from his career at Boiling Springs. "It's exciting to be able to pass on the torch to these younger guys now who will hopefully make it back to state next year," said Humphreys. "Hopefully they'll get to accomplish as seniors what I got to accomplish this year." Boiling Springs girls lacrosse had two players sign to continue their athletic careers at the college level next season. Emily Krechko, a two-sport athlete who also competed in tennis, signed to continue her college career at Anderson University next season where she plans to major in physical therapy. She said that the comfort she felt with Anderson was the main reason for her choice. "I was looking for a good Christian college and Anderson was one of the top schools," said Krechko. "It just made me feel like home whenever I got there and it's just such a modern campus that is very beautiful." Krechko said she chose to continue her career in lacrosse instead of tennis because of the team aspect of the game. "I love the aggression in lacrosse along with the team aspect of the game," said Krechko."In tennis it's a mind game to myself but in lacrosse I work with my team, and it makes me feel much better being able to do that." Isabella Boyd also signed to continue her athletic career at the college level next season at Newberry College next season where she plans to major in middle level education. "It's a smaller school but doesn't feel like a small school because they have a really great community there that seem to all get along," said Boyd. "My main focus was the coach because he's a very engaging person and it just seemed like the right place for me." The Boiling Springs girls soccer team had three players sign on Thursday as Shiloh Worth, Daria Regan, and Abby Fisher all signed to continue their soccer careers at Spartanburg Methodist College next season. Fisher, who is majoring in business, said that the chance to stay close to home but to get some independence was her reason for choosing the Pioneers. "It's my hometown of Spartanburg but also far enough away to have some independence," said Fisher. "It's close to home but also allows me to have a taste of the college life." Regan, who plans to major in general sciences before hopefully transferring to West Point, said that this opportunity was a late decision that she's thankful to have after dealing with injuries earlier in her career. "It was kind of a last-minute decision as in 2021 I suffered an injury," said Regan. "It's been a tough fight to get back on my feet and I'm thankful Spartanburg Methodist is taking a chance on me and I'm looking forward to what the next two years have to come." Worth, who is planning on majoring in art, said that the location and the chance the school gives her to pursue her future opportunities were the key factors in her decision. "The location and the art program were two main factors in my decision," said Worth. "The whole process of going to SMC has been super student based and with my sister playing there I've always had the inclination to go there. Speaking with the art professors there it seemed like the programs they had there would really help me going towards my future goals. All three said that the chance to continue their college careers with each other helped make the choice easy for them. "We've been playing soccer together since we were nine years old," said Fisher. "The three of us have been close forever so it's kind of sweet to be able to continue our careers together in college." Comments are closed.
