On Friday night the Chapman Panthers used an impressive night from running back Dante Smith to capture a 48-0 win over the Boiling Springs Bulldogs. Smith finished the night with with 281 yards rushing on nineteen carries with three touchdowns.
“He’s unreal,” said Chapman head coach Mark Hodge about Smith’s performance. “There are people that try to knock him for being 5’9” but I tell them all that he gets the job done.” Smith's performance got started pretty early as just two minutes into the game he ran the ball in from two yards out to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead after setting up the score on a thirty-seven yard run the previous play. Chapman quarterback Mikele Colarsurdo would account for the next two scores as he rushed in from three yards out with four minutes to go in the first quarter then found Ben Rollins on a thirty-two yard touchdown pass to start the second quarter and extend the Panthers lead to 20-0. It wasn't long before Smith struck again though as midway through the second quarter he ran the ball sixty-four yards for a touchdown and a 27-0 lead. The Panthers would score one more time before the half to grab a 34-0 halftime lead. "It was just one of those nights, and they don't happen often, that I could just look at my players and say well done because they just executed everything we asked them to do correctly," said Hodge about his team's performance. Smith would add another score for the Panthers in the third quarter from sixty-one yards out giving Chapman a 41-0 lead. As for the Bulldogs they struggled to get much going offensively on Friday night as they were only able to get eighty-six yards of offense and were unable to slow down a highly potent Chapman offense that ran for over four hundred yards of offense. "There's not a lot you can say we just didn't play well against a really good football team," said Boiling Springs head coach Rick Tate. "You can't make mistakes like we did tonight but we'll work to get those things corrected and look to improve next week." On the defensive side of the ball the Bulldogs did see Cam Philson record five and a half tackles with two sacks while Caden Sullivan picked off a Colarsurdo pass in the first half. On the offensive side Cam Mills rushed for forty yards on nine carries to lead the Bulldogs. Boiling Springs will go on the road next week for their first road game of the season when they travel to play the #1 ranked team in 5A the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes. Comments are closed.
