On Monday night the rain held off just long enough for the Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs to capture a 5-4 victory over the Fort Mill Lady Yellow Jackets after falling to them 6-2 earlier this season.
The Bulldogs got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when Emily Hill hit a homerun to right centerfield giving Boiling Springs a 1-0 lead. They added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning when AD Raines scored on a double by Olivia Hall after pinch running for the catcher Ragan Bristol who had reached on a double of her own. The Bulldogs added to their lead on the next at-bat when Natalie Hazzard singled home Hall and gave Boiling Springs a 3-0 lead after the third inning. Boiling Springs held onto the 3-0 lead until the top of the fifth inning when the Yellow Jackets were able to score three runs of their own. Fort Mill's Ally Hall started the scoring for the Yellow Jackets when she singled and later was able to score on a single by Brynn Bartolini to cut the Boiling Springs lead to 3-1. Bartolini and Emma Skovran, who reached on a single of her own, both scored on a double by Lauren Collie to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Bulldogs had two outs with Olivia Hall and Natalie Hazzard at second and third base with Emily Hill, who had hit an earlier home run, coming to the plate. Hill hit a long fly ball to centerfield that was misplayed by the Fort Mill fielder allowing both Hall and Hazzard to score giving the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead after the fifth inning. Fort Mill added a run in the top of the sixth inning while the Bulldogs were unable to do anything in the bottom half of the sixth inning and the game on the line going to the top of the seventh. The Yellow Jackets were able to get one runner on in the top of the seventh with one out with Collie coming to the plate who had brought home two runners earlier in the game. Collie was able to make good contact on a 1-2 pitch but Boiling Springs centerfielder Zoey Stewart made a great catch and an even better throw to first base to get a double play after the runner was unable to beat the throw back to the base giving the Bulldogs a 5-4 victory over the Yellow Jackets. "I'm glad about the way we battled in the game tonight," said Bulldogs head coach Randy Piazza. "It's always nice to be able to get a win against a good team like that especially in a rematch from earlier this year." Boiling Springs got a good pitching performance from Ashlyn Hartsoe who pitched a complete game and got the win for the Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs will return to region play on Tuesday night as they travel to Gaffney to take on the Lady Indians. Comments are closed.
