On Tuesday night it took two overtimes and a thirty-two point night from Mavericks junior Jalani Adams for Mauldin to grab a 53-47 win over the Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs. In the first quarter it was all Adams as she scored all eight of the Mavericks points in the quarter and the Bulldogs struggled early only scoring three points mainly due to seven turnovers by the Bulldogs in the quarter. In the second quarter the Bulldogs got things sorted out as they outscored the Mavericks 11-6 in the quarter on their way to tying the game at 14-14 when the halftime buzzer sounded. The Bulldogs got their first lead of the game when Meghan Scharpenberg hit a three pointer from the left side to take a 13-10 lead but most of the offense in the second quarter came from Arissa Edwards who scored seven of the Bulldogs eleven points in the quarter. Adams gave Mauldin the first lead of the second half when she made a layup just seconds into the third quarter putting the Mavericks up 16-14 but the Bulldogs held the lead at the end of the quarter outscoring the Mavericks 10-7 and holding a 24-21 lead at the end of the third quarter. Laisha Labra led the way for the Bulldogs in the quarter as she scored five points in the quarter including the three pointer that gave the Bulldogs the lead. In the fourth quarter Boiling Springs led 31-27 with just under four minutes to go in the game but back to back baskets by the Mavericks including the tying layup from Ashia Austin off a steal by Adams put the score at 31-31 with just over two and a half minutes to go in the game. The Bulldogs retook the lead when Edwards hit her first free throw and then after missing the second the Bulldogs D'Marria Glenn was able to make the lead 34-31 on a put-back layup with under two minutes left. Mauldin tied the game on a three-pointer by Lauren Wearbon from the top left of the floor and then took the lead on a layup by Adams who put the Mavericks up 36-34 with just forty-five second left in regulation. With time running out in the game Edwards stole a Mauldin pass and was fouled on a layup attempt with just twelve seconds left in the game. Edwards was able to make both free throws and send the game into overtime with both teams tied at 36-36. In overtime Adams got back to work as she hit back-to-back buckets giving Mauldin a 42-40 lead with just over a minute and a half left in overtime. The Bulldogs grabbed the lead back when Edwards hit a three-pointer from the left side of the court and extended that lead to 45-42 when Edwards hit both free throws on the next possession and only twenty-four seconds left. With just ten seconds remaining in overtime the Mavericks had one more big play still left as Wearborn hit her second big three-pointer of the game to tie it at 45-45 and a last second Boiling Springs shot attempt fell just short sending the game into a double overtime. In the second overtime Adams took over the game as she scored five points in an 8-2 run by Mauldin to come away with the victory. While Mauldin's Jalani Adams led all scorers with thirty-two points she wasn't the only player to score in double figures as Boiling Springs' Arissa Edwards scored twenty points and Meghan Scharpenberg finished the night with ten points. The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday night as they travel to Riverside for another region matchup.
