"A win is a win and we'll take it," is the first thing that Boiling Springs head girl's basketball coach Dwayne Lytle could say about the Bulldogs 41-39 victory over Byrnes In their first region matchup on Friday night. The game was close throughout the first half as Boiling Springs grabbed it's first lead with just over a minute left in the first quarter when Morgan Prideau hit a three pointer to give the Bulldogs a 10-8, a lead they would hold for the rest of the quarter. The Rebels would fight back in the second quarter though as they claimed a 23-21 lead at halftime over the Bulldogs. The third quarter was the difference maker for the Bulldogs as they outscored the Rebels 12-5 to take a 33-28 lead into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs trailed early in the third quarter 28-25 until Caroline Reese was able to hit a three pointer to tie the game at the two minute mark and then Prideau was able to hit a three pointer of her own on the next Bulldogs possession to give them a 31-28 lead with just over a minute to go in the third quarter. "Our defensive intensity really sparked us there in the third quarter," said Coach Lytle. "We figured out what they were trying to do and we were able to shut it down." In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs were able to hold on to the lead despite going three of nine from the free throw line down the stretch. Coach Lytle said that on Friday night the work that they got from the post was key in the victory as they got eight points from Ragan Bristol and three points and ten rebounds from Amaya Richardson. "We told them tonight that we were going to win the game tonight in the paint with Amaya and Ragan," said Coach Lytle. "Amaya really came alive for us on the boards and rebounding won us the game." With the victory the Bulldogs claim a big victory over the Rebels as both teams were picked preseason third and fourth in the region. "They came in ranked just ahead of us in third in the preseason rankings," said Coach Lytle. "It was nice to hopefully move up just a little bit and we'll take the win." The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Mauldin in another region matchup against the Mavericks. Boy's Game In the last game on Friday night the Boiling Springs Bulldogs opened region play with a tough 66-56 loss to the visiting Byrnes Rebels.
The Rebels were able to jump out to an early 15-5 lead but the Bulldogs were able to claw back in the first quarter as Zach Baldinelli scored six points in the quarter for Boiling Springs to make the Byrnes lead 17-13 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Rebels outscored the Bulldogs 19-11 and claim a twelve point halftime lead at 36-24. The twelve point differential was a mark the Bulldogs couldn't seem to break even though they got the game back within ten late in the fourth quarter. The Rebels got an impressive performance on Friday night from Josh Moore as he scored twenty-six of the Rebels sixty-six points on Friday night. Moore wasn't the only Rebel to finish in double digits in scoring as Dustin Gillum scored 15 points and Clay Cox scored 12 points on Friday night for the Rebels.
