The Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs softball team finished out their first trip through region play on Friday night with an 18-0 victory over the visiting Spartanburg Vikings. The Bulldogs had an Impressive performance from Ashlyn Hartsoe on Friday night who allowed only one Vikings hit while striking out ten Spartanburg batters.
"I'm really proud of her and her performance tonight," said Bulldogs head coach Randy Piazza about Hartsoe's performance Friday night. "She was keeping the ball down tonight and really hitting her spots." While Hartsoe's pitching performance was impressive, the Bulldogs bats were red hot on Friday night. The Bulldogs batted around in the first inning as the two through eight hitters in the Boiling Springs lineup all scored. The Bulldogs were able to score seven runs in the first inning as Grace McKinney started the Boiling Springs offensive performance with a single for their first hit of the game. Olivia Hall would follow two batters later with a triple bringing home McKinney and Emily Hill, who had reached on an error, to give Boiling Springs a 2-0 lead. Hall would score on the next at-bat on a single by Natalie Hazzard. The Bulldogs then scored three more runs in the first inning on a single by Tori Beland and a triple by Zoey Stewart to give Boiling Springs a 7-0 lead at the end of the first inning. In the third inning the Bulldogs bats got back to work as Sammy Quintero walked to start the inning but soon scored on a double by Zoey Stewart, who finished the night just a homerun away from hitting for the cycle. AD Raines would follow Stewart with a single that scored Beland who had reached on a walk of her own. The Bulldogs got two more runs when Stewart and Raines both scored on a double by Ragan Bristol to put the Boiling Springs lead at 11-0. The Bulldogs finished the scoring in the third inning when Stewart hit a single up the middle scoring her fourth RBI of the game and putting the Boiling Springs lead at 14-0 after the third inning. Olivia Hall got her third RBI of the game in the fourth inning when she singled in Ragan Bristol who had reached base on a Vikings error. Hall and Grace McKinney, who was also on base, both scored on a single by Sammy Quintero who after a Vikings error would come around and score on the same at-bat to make the Bulldogs lead 18-0. The Bulldogs last hit of the night was by Tori Beland who reached base on all four of her plate appearances on Friday night. "It was really good to come out here and hit the ball like we did tonight. We struggled a few times this year getting the bats going but to be able to hit like we did tonight I'm really proud of all the girls," said Coach Piazza. "I was also really proud of how our two young kids Quintero and Raines came out here and performed tonight." The Bulldogs with the victory finished their first trip through region play with a 2-2 record and will travel to Laurens Tuesday before returning to region play next Friday when Dorman travels to Boiling Springs.
