The Boiling Springs Bulldogs volleyball team picked up their first region win on Thursday night by defeating Spartanburg 3-0 but that wasn’t the biggest accomplishment of the night as junior Madison Gregory also picked up her one-thousandth career assist. Gregory said that it was special to her to pick up such a career milestone because she has really been working hard towards this goal for a long time. "It is really cool because I have been working toward this goal since I was a freshman," said Madison Gregory. "I was glad it was all able to come together tonight and I was able to accomplish this goal here at home." Boiling Springs head volleyball coach Allyson Elliot was very proud of Gregory's accomplishment and the effort that her team put in to help Gregory accomplish that goal on Thursday night. "I think I was the most proud of how hard our team was working to help Madison accomplish her goal," said Elliot. "It really is such a great accomplishment for Madison and she has worked really hard to get here." After starting off their region schedule against two teams that are annual contenders for state championships, Dorman and Mauldin, it was nice for the Bulldogs to pick up their first region win in the first game after playing those two teams. "We play in a very competitive region and one of our goals this season is to get back towards the top of the region," said Elliot. "We feel this next stretch of games could help us get towards that goal and we're working on stuff that we think can help with that." The Bulldogs lost the first point of the game but went on a 25-6 run to capture the first set 25-7 and grab a quick 1-0 lead over the Vikings. They also lost the first point of the second set and while it was a more competitive set the Bulldogs were able to capture the second set 25-16. In the third set Boiling Spring got off to a 4-0 lead behind the serves from Gregory and the Bulldogs never looked back as they captured the third set 25-11 and claimed the match 3-0. Gregory led the Bulldogs in assists on Thursday night as she had twenty-eight assists for the match while Creighton Sparks led the Bulldogs with ten kills. Alex Fyfe led Boiling Springs in digs with seven while Savannah Page led with eight aces and Carley Szustak led the team with four blocks. Boiling Springs will return to action on Friday as they travel to Seveirville, TN for a tournament this weekend before returning to region play next week when they travel to Hillcrest on Tuesday night. Bulldogs Golf Victorious Again The Boiling Springs girls golf team won their second match in as many days as they defeated Spartanburg and Byrnes in a match at the Spartanburg Country Club on Thursday afternoon.
