After missing last year due to the pandemic, the Spartanburg County golf championship returned on Monday at Woodfin Ridge as beautiful weather shined down on the golf course. The Boiling Springs, Chesnee, and Chapman golf teams all had good days on Monday but all three teams just weren’t good enough on this day to defeat the Woodruff Wolverines, the 2021 Spartanburg County champions.
Woodruff won the championship shooting a team score of 293 which was five shots better than second place Dorman and eight shots better than third place Boiling Springs who shot a team score of 301. The Wolverines were led by medalist Daniel Brasington who shot a tournament low score of 68 including a torching 31 on the back nine to help Woodruff secure the championship, as all five Wolverines golfers shot a score of 78 or below. The Wolverines Gage Howard and Chase Turner both shot scores of 74 to be named to the All-County team. Boiling Springs got a strong outing from medalist runner-up Andrew Gregory who shot a team low score of 71 and was the only other player besides Brasington to shoot under par on Monday. Gregory along with Chapman’s Ethan Holcombe (74) were both named to the All-County team along with the three Woodruff golfers as well as Dorman’s Nathan Franks, Davis Ross, and Wesley Bishop. The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday in a home match against Fort Mill and Nation Ford before traveling to Aiken this weekend for the Southern Cross tournament at the Palmetto Country Club. They will compete in the Region III-5A championships on May 3 at the Chester Country Club in Chester, SC. Comments are closed.
