BOILING SPRINGS, SC - Boiling Springs golfer Walker Greene stepped into the number one spot for the Bulldogs in the Spartanburg County Championship and ended up coming away with the biggest individual trophy as he claimed the 2022 Spartanburg County Championship individual title on Monday.
Greene, stepping in for Andrew Gregory at the number one spot for the Bulldogs on Monday, was the only golfer to shoot under par as he fired a tournament low score of 68, four shots under par at the Woodfin Ridge Golf Course. "It was a great day on the course today and I just had everything dialed in," said Bulldogs golfer Walker Greene. "I was putting and hitting good as my alignment was right which just made it a good day. It's great knowing that I can put up that type of score and now I'm the champion." Bulldogs coach Josh Pruitt was very happy about Greene's performance on Monday as he stepped in with a big performance at the number one spot as he's normally the number three golfer for Boiling Springs. "Walker is a great kid," said Pruit. "I'm so proud of him as he is normally our number three golfer and he kept it all together today as he overcome some shots while also parring the final hole to be the only red number on the board today." Boiling Springs finished the tournament in second place as a team after shooting a combined team score of 319, which was just nine shots back of Spartanburg who won the team competition with a score of 310. "We're still trying to get back healthy," said Pruitt. "There's still a long way to go throughout the season but I still feel comfortable as I did to start the year. Once we get all our players back healthy and get some reps, I think we'll be alright." The Bulldogs were joined by other local teams at the county tournament as Boiling Springs finished one shot ahead of third place Dorman (320) and three shots ahead of fourth place Woodruff (322). As far as other teams in the northern part of Spartanburg County, Spartanburg Christian Academy shot a 355, Chesnee shot a 373, Chapman shot a 379, and Landrum shot a team score of 409. Walker was joined on the All-County team by Spartanburg's Connor Williams (72), Woodruff's Ben McKinney (77), SCA's Lathan Moss (78), Dorman's Will Ruth (78) as well as Spartanburg Day's Granger Amick (76) and Carter Boyd (78). Boiling Springs will look to build on their momentum from the Spartanburg County tournament into their next tournament at the Georgia/South Carolina Cup that will be held from April 1-2 at the Stoney Point Golf Course in Greenwood, SC.
