Boiling Springs entered region play on Friday for the first time in two years and didn't waste their opportunity as they came away with a 5-3 victory over Gaffney to improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in region play. With the Bulldogs trailing 2-1 and just under twelve minutes to go in the first half, with their only goal coming off a shot from sophomore midfielder Roberto Silva, that's when junior forward Christian Gonzalez-Calihu took over for the Bulldogs. As the clock ticked inside twelve minutes of the first half the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty shot for Gonzalez-Calihu who found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2 as the game went into halftime. In the second half Gonzalez-Calihu got back to work scoring a quick goal to put the Bulldogs up 3-2 before Gaffney responded with a goal of their own to tie the game at 3-3. Over an eleven minute times span of the game, from the forty-four minute mark to the fifty-five minute marks, Gonzalez-Calihu scored his third and fourth goals of the game to put Boiling Springs ahead 5-3 and carry them to their first region win in two years. Boiling Springs will play again on Tuesday when they host Nation Ford in another region matchup. Girls GameBoiling Springs girls team was originally scheduled to start their season on Thursday but after heavy thunderstorms their first region matchup of the season got moved to Friday where they defeated Gaffney 4-1 as they opened region season on the road.
The Bulldogs started off rough in the first half as they struggled to find the goal as they found themselves tied 1-1 at halftime. In the second half though the Bulldogs got their offense going as they scored three unanswered goals to come away with a 4-1 region victory. Boiling Springs got goals from senior Skylar Young, junior Shiloh Worth, sophomore Kenturah Meadows, and sophomore Drey Nesbitt on Friday night.
