BOILING SPRINGS, SC - In the matchup between two schools located within 10 miles of each other, there was some late inning drama, but the Boiling Springs baseball team was able to come away with a 6-3 win over the visiting Chapman Panthers on Wednesday night.
As Boiling Springs was leading 6-3 in the top of the seventh inning with one out, Chapman worked the bases loaded when the Bulldogs turned to pitcher Logan Merchant who shut down the Panthers rally with in four pitches forcing two pop outs for the win. Boiling Springs struck first in the bottom of the first inning as Landon Stevens and Kai Lee reached base on a single and an error to put runners at first and second base. Justin Dawkins gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead when he singled to left field allowing Stevens and Lee to score from second and third base respectively. In the bottom of the second inning the Bulldogs added to their lead by adding three runs to take a 5-0 lead over the Panthers. The scoring in the second inning got started when the bases were loaded, and Noah Ezell scored from third base when Kai Lee singled to the right side of the infield. Titus Hutchins followed Lee with a walk allowing Kyle Patterson to score after reaching base on a double earlier in the inning. Boiling Springs finished their scoring when Chansen Cole hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that allowed Landon Stevens to score. With two runners still on base the for the Bulldogs, Chapman pitcher Carson Seymour was able to strike the next Boiling Springs batter out to end the inning. Chapman got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as they scored two runs to cut the lead to 5-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Panthers scoring started when Colt McPeters singled to rightfield scoring Hank Tolleson from third base before Lewis McAlister singled to centerfield scoring Kole Brown from third base. With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, JD Moore singled to rightfield before courtesy runner Merchant scored from second base on a double to rightfield by Emory Horton to give the Bulldogs a 6-2 lead. In the top of the seventh inning, Chapman loaded the bases and saw Chandler Cartee score on a walk to Kole Brown to cut the lead to 6-3 before Merchant came in to close out the game. Boiling Springs had nine of the 10 batters that came to the plate get a hit while Justin Dawkins had two RBIs and Landon Stevens scored two runs. Kyle Dill picked up the win for the Bulldogs as he pitched six innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four batters. Kole Brown, Colt McPeters, and Lewis McAlister all picked up RBIs for Chapman on Wednesday night. Boiling Springs will be back in action on Saturday as they play Fountain Inn in the Sparkle City Tournament at Duncan Park starting at 1:30 PM. Chapman will also play again on Saturday in the same tournament against Mid-Carolina at 3:45 PM. Comments are closed.
