A region matchup that has been decided on key plays over the last few years was decided pretty early on Friday night as the Dorman Cavaliers captured a 56-14 victory over Boiling Springs.
The Cavaliers jumped on the board first when Zack Hillstock lined up in a wildcat formation and ran the ball in from eight yards out to put the Cavaliers up 7-0 with 6:37 left in the first quarter. Dorman's offense would score again on their next drive when quarterback Matthew Powell found wide receiver Kamal Desor, who played for Boiling Springs last season, on a sixty yard touchdown pass to put the Cavaliers up 14-0 with 2:48 left in the first quarter. With just thirteen seconds left in the first quarter the Cavaliers added another score when Thomas Morgan ran the ball in from thirty yards out to put Dorman up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter the Boiling Springs offense finally got on the board when quarterback Aaron Thomas found wide receiver Reggie Crocker on a twenty-five yard touchdown pass to put the Dorman lead at 21-7 with 9:34 left in the half. On the next Dorman drive the Bulldogs defense seemed to have held the Cavaliers to a three-and-out but a late pass interference call kept the drive alive for the Cavaliers. On the very next play Dorman's Thomas Morgan scored his second touchdown of the game, this time on a forty-eight yard run to put the score at 28-7 in favor of the Cavaliers. When the Cavaliers offense got the ball back Zack Hillstock was able to get his second touchdown of the game on a fourteen yard run to give the Cavaliers a 35-7 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Boiling Springs fumbled the ball and that led to Thomas Morgan scoring his third touchdown of the game and giving Dorman a 42-7 lead with just over six minutes left in the half. Dorman would get one more score before the half when quarterback Hayden Lee ran the ball in from twelve yards out giving the Cavaliers a 49-7 halftime lead. At the start of the second half the Cavaliers got their only points of the half when Chance Black returned the opening kickoff ninety-seven yards to give Dorman a 56-7 lead. The Bulldogs would add another score with just over a minute to go in the game when Trey Miller ran the ball in from one yard out to make the lead 56-14 in favor of the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers gained four-hundred and two yards of offense on Friday night while the Bulldogs were held to just two-hundred and sixty-two yards. "We had a bad night but I'm proud of the effort the kids showed especially there in the second half," said Bulldogs head coach Rick Tate. "We told the kids there at halftime that how we played next week will be determined on how we play the second half of this game and I was proud of the effort that the kids brought." With the loss the Bulldogs fell to 1-1 in region play but will look to add another win to that record next week as they host Mauldin for homecoming next Friday. The Mavericks defeated Riverside 49-13 on Friday night. Comments are closed.
