After being out of school for the last three days the Boiling Springs Bulldogs didn't seem to be suffering from much rust as they captured an 80-43 victory over district mate Chesnee on Thursday night. "As a basketball coach you always worry about these long stretches of inactivity because of the weather," said Bulldogs head coach Hal McManus. "We've got a lot of great senior leadership and they made sure that we came out and weren't sluggish tonight." One of those seniors that helped lead the Bulldogs was senior Chance Guest who finished the night with twelve points, ten rebounds, and five assists all of which he captured mostly in the first half. "Chance is a special player," said Coach McManus. "He is such an integral part of our team but the things he does are things that don't always show up in the stat book. Lots of times with him you're not going to see big time stats but you're always going to see big time performances." The Bulldogs were able to jump out to a 24-7 first quarter lead behind the performance from Guest and fellow senior Zach Baldinelli who led Boiling Springs in the first quarter with seven points. The second quarter was pretty even as the Bulldogs were able to maintain their lead and claim a 38-20 halftime lead over the Eagles. In the second half Boiling Springs was able to get some minutes for their whole roster as all fourteen players on the roster were able to get on the floor with thirteen of those players being able to score on Thursday night. "I think no matter who was in the ballgame for us tonight we saw good things," said Coach McManus. "We moved the ball well tonight and I think everyone that got on the floor tonight really contributed to the game. When you talk about a total team win, that was the perfect definition of it." The biggest performance on Thursday night came from junior Mason Morris who scored all of his game high fifteen points in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs. Chesnee was led on Thursday night by seniors Dez Tate and Ahmad Smith who both scored thirteen points for the Eagles. Boiling Springs will return to action on Friday night as they host Byrnes for the first region matchup of the season while Chesnee will also return to action on Friday night as they travel to Greer. Girl's Game The Boiling Springs Bulldogs girls basketball team also got back to work from a long break on Thursday night as they captured a 57-27 victory over the Chesnee Eagles.
"I was nervous how we would look tonight with all the time off," said Bulldogs head coach Dwayne Lytle. "I was very happy with how we came out and played." The Bulldogs were able to jump out to a 20-6 first quarter lead behind six different players scoring for Boiling Springs with Caroline Reese leading the way with five points. The Bulldogs were able to extend their lead in the second quarter as they claimed a 32-13 halftime lead. In the third quarter it was almost all Morgan Prideau as she scored eight of the Bulldogs twelve third quarter points giving Boiling Springs a 44-21 third quarter lead. The Bulldogs leading scorer on Thursday night was Amaya Richardson who scored ten points while Logan Lawter led the Eagles with six points. Comments are closed.
