The Boiling Springs volleyball team opened the 5A playoffs as a number four seed which forced them to travel to Blythewood on Wednesday but when the night was over the Bulldogs came away with a 3-1 victory over the number one seed Bengals.
In the same time that it took the Bulldogs to reach their first round playoff match, they also sealed their trip to the second round of the playoffs in the same amount of time. ”We like being the underdog and we know they have a great program,” said Bulldogs head coach Allyson Elliot. “We had a great atmosphere tonight and it all just fell together for us tonight. It was a back and forth game all night and I was proud how we responded especially in game four after losing the third set and put it away. Our girls are used to these long road trips and to get a big win on a road trip like this is huge for us. This win will give us huge momentum moving forward in the playoffs.” The Bulldogs set the tone early coming away with a 25-21 victory in the first set before grabbing a 25-22 victory in the second set to take a quick 2-0 lead in the match. Blythewood made a run in the third set grabbing a 25-16 win to cut the Bulldogs lead to 2-1 but that was their only win of the match as the Bulldogs claimed their most dominant victory of the match during the fourth set coming away with a 25-19 victory to win the set and match moving the Bulldogs into the second round of the playoffs. Savannah Page led the Bulldogs on Wednesday night with two kills, three aces, three blocks, 19 assists, and 14 digs as Gracie Kilgore led the team in digs with 25 while adding four ace serves and four assists. The Bulldogs also had a strong presence on the net as Cloe Wood led the team in kills with 15 kills, 12 digs, two blocks, and two ace serves while Karson Browning also added 12 kills and four blocks. With the victory the Bulldogs will now travel to Wade Hampton on Monday for a second round matchup in the 5A playoffs. “We played them earlier this year and I know they have only gotten better which I feel like we have done the same thing,” said Elliot. “We’re looking forward to the matchup and know it will be a good match.” Comments are closed.
