On Wednesday night the Boiling Springs Bulldogs defeated the eighth ranked Westside Rams 60-58 to advance to the second round of the 5A boy's basketball playoffs on a buzzer beating layup by senior Seth Hewitt. The victory gives the Bulldogs its first playoff victory in eleven years..
The Bulldogs started out the game falling behind the Rams 10-3 four minutes into the game only to go on an eleven to two run to end the first quarter and claim a 14-12 lead. Westside's Traye Carson led the Rams in the second quarter as the Rams scored twenty five points in the quarter to reclaim the lead and give Westside a 37-32 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs regained the lead at the start of the third quarter and held on to that lead as they held a 48-47 lead after three quarters. Westside regained the lead with just under 5:50 remaining in the fourth quarter on a three pointer as they took a 52-49 lead. Boiling Springs regained the lead on back-to-back layups late in the fourth quarter giving the Bulldogs a 56-54 lead with just under two minutes left to play in the game. After the Bulldogs pushed the lead to 58-55 Westside was able to tie the game at 58-58 on a Zy Thompson three pointer with just forty seconds left in the game. With just twenty-five seconds left on the clock the Bulldogs brought the ball up the court with a chance to move to the second round of the playoffs on the line. With the clock showing just under ten seconds left in the game junior Kamal Desor drove to the basket and found senior Seth Hewitt wide open under the basket for a layup to give Boiling Springs a 60-58 victory as time expired. Boiling Springs was led on offense by Hewitt who scored sixteen points for the Bulldogs on Wednesday night. Hewitt wasn't the only player for the Bulldogs to score in double figures as junior Zach Baldinelli scored fourteen points and senior Isaiah Prysock finished the game with twelve points. Westside was led on offense by Traye Carson who led all scorers on Friday night with thirty-one points. The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday night at 7:00 PM as they travel to Riverside in the second round of the 5A playoffs after the Warriors defeated Northwestern 66-61 on Wednesday night.
