BOILING SPRINGS, SC - The Boiling Springs boy's tennis accomplished a feat that they haven't accomplished in at least four years as they defeated Dorman 4-2 on Monday afternoon in a matchup that was rescheduled from earlier this season.
"It's a huge win for us," said Bulldogs head coach Caleb Weathers. "It's the first time in the four years that I've been here that we've defeated Dorman in the regular season. Being able to pull this one out is huge, and I know it's big win for the guys." With the Bulldogs losing the last few years by scores of 4-3 to the Cavaliers, it felt like the match could go that way again as the Bulldogs held a 3-2 lead. Holding the slim lead, the Bulldogs got a key victory at their number three doubles as Richie Khouri came away with a 10-8 tiebreaker victory on a return at the net that found the back right corner of the court for the winning point. The match had been split (6-4, 3-6) prior to heading into the tiebreaker set. Boiling Springs also got wins in the number four singles as Ben Reese came away with a (6-2, 6-2) victory and Nate Miller (6-4, 6-3) added another victory at number five singles. Preston Reese and Chandler McCraw (6-1, 6-2) also came away with a victory for the Bulldogs in number two doubles. "I've told our guys that people see how good the guys at the top are, but high school tennis is won by the guys at the bottom half of the ladder," said Weathers. "Everywhere we go there's going to be guys at the top that just love tennis but I tell our guys if we can be strong at the bottom half and catch people at their weaker spots we can pick up wins. We're fairly young on the bottom half of our ladder but they're a really hungry group that wants to get better and take their tennis very seriously." Boiling Springs will now look to build on their momentum as they go back into region play on Tuesday when they travel to Nation Ford. "We came into this contest today with a lot of momentum from how well we played a good Fort Mill team last week," said Weathers. "To see that come to fruition tonight brings us a lot of motivation going into a match against another good team in Nation Ford tomorrow. Proving to ourselves we can pull out wins against good teams even when we don't play our best will only help us with our confidence going forward especially if we're playing our best tennis."
