The Boiling Springs tennis team continued their winning ways on Monday as they defeated Nation Ford 5-1 in a key region matchup that started a busy week for the Bulldogs.
"Tonight the girls were on their game from the get-go," said Bulldogs head coach Jill Cooke. "I told them that Nation Ford would be coming here looking to revenge their loss last week and to not take anything for granted. They played tough from the start and just done a great job." The Bulldogs started the night picking up a win in number one singles as Madison Ball defeated her opponent (6-2, 6-2) before Sydney Braswell defeated Lauren Padgett (6-1, 6-0) in number two singles. Emily Krechko defeated Bella Neff (6-1, 6-2) in number three singles before Kaiden Price defeated Ava Baldino (6-2, 6-1) in number four singles. Boiling Springs also picked up a victory in number two doubles as Victoria Leonard and Anna Lynn Faile defeated their opponents (6-3, 6-2). The victory starts a busy week for the Bulldogs as they will play three straight matches in three consecutive days and Cooke said starting out this week with a win is very important. "It's very good to start with a win because it sets the pace for the week," said Cooke. "We'll follow it up with a big match against Fort Mill tomorrow before finishing out our region play with a huge match against Clover, so to get this first one is a good step towards the rest of the week." The Bulldogs improved their record to 13-1 on the season and 5-1 in region play which is a huge improvement from last year which Cooke credits to her senior leaders. "Our team has played leaps and bounds better this year and I think it's definitely because of the senior leadership and their experience," said Cooke. "They've led the team with their experience and it's the reason we've only loss one match, it's because of their expertise." Boiling Springs will end the regular season with two straight home region matches against Fort Mill on Tuesday, the Bulldogs only loss this season, and against Clover on Wednesday. The final two matches will be important to the positioning of the Bulldogs in the playoffs and they'll be looking for a lot of community support especially on Wednesday afternoon.
