ROEBUCK, SC - After a couple of tough outings in their past three games, the Boiling Springs softball team bounced back with an impressive 1-0 victory over Dorman on Friday night.
The Bulldogs got a great night on the mound from sophomore pitcher Bri Stanley who pitched all seven innings while only allowing seven hits and striking out three batters. With Stanley working strong from the mound, she was also getting a strong defensive effort in the field as a group that had committed ten errors in their last three games were flawless on Friday night. While Boiling Springs was getting a good pitching effort from Stanley, Dorman was also getting a good performance from pitcher Kasey Wolfe who had held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first three innings. In the top of the fourth inning Grace Geddes and AD Raines led off the inning with singles for the Bulldogs. Geddes was forced out on a fielder's choice at third base on the next at-bat but it allowed Raines to advance to second base. On the next at-bat Bri Stanley came to the plate where she hit a single to centerfield on the first pitch of the at-bat allowing Raines to race around third base and score to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Dorman tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as they started the inning with a single and a double to put runners at second and third base. Stanley then forced a popup in foul territory to third baseman Kate Philbeck for the first out of the inning before Philbeck fielded a bunt and fired to first base to give the Cavaliers two outs with runners still stranded at second and third base. The final out of the game came when Stanley forced a fly ball to shortstop Leaha Rushing to help secure the win for the Bulldogs and give the Cavaliers only their third loss of the season. Boiling Springs will look to build on their momentum from the win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday when they travel to Nation Ford for another region matchup, looking to overcome a loss to the Falcons earlier this season. The Bulldogs will also head to the Eastman Invitational in Kingsport, TN at the end of next week for their last games before spring break. Comments are closed.
