In sports they say there’s nothing that cures what ails you more than winning and the Boiling Springs Bulldogs done just that on Friday night as they defeated the Riverside Warriors 45-0 to start region play 1-0.
”The kids played hard tonight and they really worked hard in practice all week,” said Bulldogs head coach Rick Tate. “Our kids have had a lot of frustration the last few weeks but it’s good for them to leave the field with a good feeling and take that with them into another region game next week.” The Bulldogs got a great performance from junior running back Cam Mills who ran for 127 yards on ten carries for two touchdowns on Friday night. The first touchdown for Mills came on an eleven yard run off the left side to give the Bulldogs an early 7-0 lead. He grabbed his second touchdown run of the night on a one yard run up the middle to put Boiling Springs up 14-0 but it was setup by a sixty-five yard sweep down the left side by Mills on the previous play. “I’m glad I was able to help out my team,” said Mills about his performance on Friday night. “Our offense is starting to come together and it’s just a process we’re starting to get right.” In the second quarter junior Dre Pinckney picked up his first offensive touchdown when he took a pitch over the right side for a five yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 21-0. The Bulldogs also got a good night from junior quarterback Jalen Dodd, who was making his first varsity start, as he was nine of fifteen for 107 yards with a four yard touchdown pass to Tedron Barber to give Boiling Springs a 28-0 halftime lead. The Bulldogs added to their lead in the third quarter when senior kicker Tanner Robbins connected on a forty-five yard field goal, just five yards short of Grayson Atkins school record, to put the Boiling Springs lead at 31-0. They would add to that lead later in the quarter when Ketron Adams ran the ball in from eleven yards out to make the lead 38-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. In the fourth quarter Carlos Carson was able to find the endzone on a sweep over the left side to make the Boiling Springs lead at 45-0. ”Our offensive line done a good job tonight and Cam done a good job of attacking,” said Tate. While the Boiling Springs offense had a great night the Bulldogs defense also had an amazing night as they held the Warriors to forty-four yards of offense including minus seven yards rushing that was aided by Ethan Rennel’s four tackles for loss. The Bulldogs were led on defense by Austin Henderson who registered six tackles and Caden Sullivan who intercepted a Riverside pass. The Bulldogs will look to take the momentum of their win Friday night into next week when they travel to take on region foe Dorman. Comments are closed.
