BOILING SPRINGS, SC - With it looking like Dorman may be able to steal a game over Boiling Springs to even the region series, the Bulldogs had a different idea as they rallied late to take a 4-3 victory over the Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
Both Boiling Springs and Dorman pitchers started the game out strong as only one combined hit was allowed over the first two innings of play between the two teams. Dorman was the first to reach the scoreboard in the top of the third inning as Jackson Pruitt scored on a single by Clay Crossley to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the third inning as Kyle Patterson and JD Moore both singled to start off the inning before moving up one base each on a sacrifice bunt by Kai Lee. Landon Stevens followed Lee with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that allowed Patterson to score from third base and tied the game up at 1-1 after three innings of play. A walk and a double by Mitch Wilson and Coleman Brown in that order respectively, set the Cavaliers up with two runners in scoring position with no outs to start the fourth inning. A sacrifice fly by Campbell Whitener to centerfield along with a double to left field by Aaron Sturgil scored both Wilson and Brown to give Dorman a 3-1 lead over the Bulldogs. Boiling Springs responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as Titus Hutchins hit a single to centerfield. He advanced to third base on the next at-bat after an error on a pickoff attempt allowed him to move up two bases before scoring on a Chansen Cole single up the middle to cut the Dorman lead to 3-2 over the Bulldogs. As both teams went scoreless in the fifth inning, Boiling Springs pitcher Lucas Morrison shut down the Cavaliers in the top of the sixth inning as well to setup the rally by the Bulldogs in the bottom half of the inning. After working a walk and picking up a single with one out by both Lucas Morrison and Kyle Patterson respectively, they both advanced up one base on a groundout to shortstop. With the runners at second base and third base, Morrison scored when Kai Lee reached on an error to tie the game at 3-3 before Patterson scored on a Landon Stevens singled to centerfield to take the Bulldogs first lead of the game at 4-3 over the Cavaliers. Morrison returned to the mound in the top of the seventh inning getting two straight outs and on the next at-bat when shortstop Titus Hutchins fielded the groundball and fired it to first baseman Emory Horton it sealed the victory for the Bulldogs. Lucas Morrison pitched the final three innings to pick up the win for the Bulldogs as he allowed no hits in relief while striking out two Dorman batters. Landon Stevens went one of three with two RBIs for the Bulldogs at the plate while Kyle Patterson was two for two at the plate with two runs scored. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 7-1 on the season and will look to complete the sweep of the Cavaliers in a game scheduled to take place at Dorman on Friday with a start time of 6:30 PM.
