The Boiling Springs lacrosse team used a strong rally over the last two minutes of the game but fell just short, as Clover came away with an 11-10 victory on Monday night.
After Clover scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter they held an 11-7 lead over the Bulldogs with just over three minutes to go in the game but the Bulldogs weren't going to just let them walk away with the victory without a fight. Micah Horton started the Bulldogs rally just inside the three minute mark when he found the back of the net off an assist from Riley Alfonso. Just forty seconds later the Bulldogs found the back of the net again when Mathias Oslund scored off an assist from Luke Olsen to narrow the Clover lead to 11-9. With 1:22 left on the clock the Bulldogs crowd erupted again when Luke Olsen emerged from behind the Clover net on the left side and then spun for a right handed shot that hit the back of the net to cut the Clover lead to one point at 11-10. While Clover tried to control the ball over the last minute of the game the Bulldogs were able to steal a Blue Eagles pass with fourteen seconds left when Boiling Springs head coach Justin Mills took a timeout to setup a last second play. After coming out of the timeout the Bulldogs got a shot at the goal that went just wide of the net allowing Clover to take control and melt the final seconds off with a deep throw to the other end of the field. One really impressive play on Monday night happened just before halftime when with just seconds left in the first half Bulldogs defender Adam Dulske cleared a ball the length of the field to Riley Alfonso, who caught the ball just outside the Clover goal before taking a shot that found the back of net just as the buzzer sounded for halftime. Brock Davis led the Bulldogs in goals on Monday night with four goals while Chase Miller led the team in assists with three of his own. Luke Olsen and Adam Dulske tied for loose balls controlled with eight each against the Blue Eagles. The Bulldogs controlled the faceoffs on Monday night winning sixteen of the twenty-four faceoffs including the last five of the game. Boiling Springs will return to play on Saturday when they travel to River Bluff for an out-of-region contest. Comments are closed.
