BOILING SPRINGS, SC - The Boiling Springs baseball team continued their winning ways in region play on Monday night as they opened their second straight region series with a victory by defeating Byrnes 10-0 in five innings.
With the win the Bulldogs have now won all three of their region games this season, as their final game against Dorman last week was postponed until April 12th. It was also announced earlier on Monday that the Bulldogs are the #3 ranked team in 5A according to the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association. Boiling Springs struck the scoreboard first as Titus Hutchins, who had reached on a fielder's choice, came around to score on an error that came off the bat of Chansen Cole to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead over the Rebels. It was the second inning that was the difference maker in the game as the Bulldogs erupted for five runs in the inning. Kyle Patterson reached base on a fielder's choice while JD Moore reached base via a walk and with two outs both were sitting at first base and third base. Patterson pushed the Bulldogs lead to 2-0 over the Rebels when he scored on a groundball by Landon Stevens that was misplayed for an error allowing him to reach base safely. Justin Dawkins followed Stevens with a hard single up the middle allowing Logan Merchant to score and push the Bulldogs lead to 3-0 over Byrnes. Hutchins was hit by a pitch to load the bases on the next at-bat before Chansen Cole walked allowing Stevens to score and put the lead at 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Emory Horton added another run for the Bulldogs when he singled to right field allowing Dawkins to score and keeping the bases loaded. Lucas Morrison followed Horton with a bases loaded walk to score Hutchins and put Boiling Springs up 6-0 over Byrnes. In the bottom of the fourth inning Titus Hutchins and Emory Horton both singled as both of them advanced up a base on an error during Horton's single putting runners at second and third bases. With two outs, Kyle Patterson hit a hard single up the middle scoring both Hutchins and Horton to push the Bulldogs lead to 8-0 over Byrnes. Boiling Springs started the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game early and started it out by loading the bases. On the first pitch to Grayson Easler with the bases loaded he was hit by a pitch which allowed Justin Dawkins to score and make the score 9-0 over the Rebels. Logan Merchant ended the game when he hit a line drive to centerfield scoring Titus Hutchins to end the game with a 10-0 Boiling Springs victory. Titus Hutchins led the Bulldogs offense going one of two at the plate while scoring four runs. Emory Horton went two of three at the plate scoring one run and picking up an RBI while Justin Dawkins went two of four with two runs scored and an RBI. Boiling Springs got another strong pitching performance from Chansen Cole who pitched four innings only allowing two hits while striking out five batters. Mason Shuford pitched the final inning for the Bulldogs allowing no hits and no runs while striking out two batters. The Bulldogs now improve to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in region play as the same two teams will meet again on Wednesday at Byrnes in a game set to begin at 6:30 PM. Comments are closed.
