BOILING SPRINGS, SC - The Boiling Springs boys soccer team trailing Byrnes by one game for the top spot in the region standings and when the night was over it was the Bulldogs taking a 2-1 victory over the Rebels and claiming their stake to the lead in the current region standings.
Boiling Springs is 3-1 currently in region play with wins over Byrnes, Dorman, and Spartanburg while their one loss was a 2-1 road loss at Gaffney last Monday. With such a pivotal match for the Bulldogs, they got started quickly as Boiling Springs took an early 1-0 goal at the ten-minute mark of the first half. The goal was a tap in goal by senior Chase Hogsed off a good run and an assist that fell behind the Rebels defense. Boiling Springs added to their lead at the thirty-minute mark of the first half as senior Melvin Mendez took an assist from junior Emir Sanchez to find the back of the net for the Bulldogs to go ahead 2-0 heading into the halftime break. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on keeping possession of the ball from the Rebels, which is a staple of the team under head coach Jack Underwood. Byrnes was able to add a goal late to cut the lead to 2-1 but were never able to find the equalizing goal as the Bulldogs took the victory. Boiling Springs improves to 4-3-1 on the season and 3-1 in region play as they look to earn their second straight region title this season. The Bulldogs will return to action on April 2nd when they travel to Mauldin for a matchup at 7:00 PM. Their next region matchup will start their second half of region play as they'll travel to Spartanburg for a 7:00 PM match. Comments are closed.
