SPARTANBURG, SC - The Boiling Springs boys' soccer team got off to a good start to begin region play over the last week as they got wins over Spartanburg and Dorman with their only loss coming to Gaffney.
Last Thursday, the Bulldogs started region play with a home matchup against Spartanburg that saw them come away with a 3-1 victory. It was a hard fought contest as they held a 2-0 lead before the Vikings cut the lead to 2-1 but Yonathan Gonzalez put the game out of reach with a late goal for the win. On Monday the Bulldogs traveled to Gaffney where they suffered their only region loss of the season falling 2-1 to the Indians. Boiling Springs controlled most of the game but couldn't take advantage of their opportunities as they outshot the Indians 25 to 4 in the match. Boiling Springs bounced back on the road against Dorman on Thursday and made their region record 2-1 when they defeated the Cavaliers in penalty kicks. In 90 minutes of regulation and overtime, the Bulldogs and Cavaliers couldn't break the 2-2 tie but in penalty kicks it was Boiling Springs who came out on top outshooting Dorman 4-3 for the victory. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 2-2-1 on the season and 2-1 in region play and will look to finish out the first half of region play with a home matchup against Byrnes at 7:00 PM on Monday.
