They call Chicago the windy city but on Wednesday it seems that wind took a vacation south to the upstate of South Carolina and the Boiling Springs baseball team used the moment to hit the ball like a breezy day at historic Wrigley Field defeating Eastside 19-3 over four innings in a non-region matchup.
The Bulldogs hit a total of five home runs on Wednesday night including a stretch where they had three straight home runs hits. Davis Starnes started the game with a walk before coming home on a homerun by Tristan Smith to give the Bulldogs an early 2-0 lead. After holding the Eagles off the board in bottom of the first inning, the Bulldogs offense got back to work in the top of the second inning as they batted through the lineup scoring five runs. The action got started as Luke Compton worked a walk before advancing to third on an Eastside error that also allowed Jimmy Rosengrant to reach base and move to second. Compton came around to score on a groundout to shortstop by Davis Starnes to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0 which also allowed Rosengrant to advance to third base. Will Holmes followed Starnes reaching base on a hit-by-pitch before Tristan Smith loaded the bases by working a walk of his own. Jamison Bagwell worked a walk with the bases loaded to bring home Rosengrant and was followed by Vance Wagner who also worked a walk to bring home Holmes giving the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead. Hudson Wilson followed Wagner reaching base on an Eagles error that allowed Smith and Bagwell to score and putting the Bulldogs 7-0 after two innings. In the bottom of the second inning the Bulldogs didn't allow the Eagles a hit and quickly turned the game back over to their offense. Boiling Springs added six more runs in the top of the third inning as Rosengrant, Starnes, Holmes, Smith, Wagner, and Wilson all crossed home plate to extend the Bulldogs lead to 13-0 after three innings of play after once again batting through their lineup. After keeping the Eagles off the board again in the bottom of the third inning the Bulldogs bats still hadn't been cooled off by the decreasing temperatures when they entered the top of the fourth inning. Will Holmes started the inning with a homerun and was followed by Tristan Smith who hit his second homer of the game to increase the Bulldogs lead to 15-0. Jamison Bagwell made it three in a row for the Bulldogs as he hit a homerun of his own to push the Boiling Springs lead to 16-0 over the Eagles. Vance Wagner followed with a double before going to third base on a single by Luke Compton. With two outs Avery Stewart loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Wagner scored on a walk to Starnes before Compton and Stewart scored on a single by Holmes for his third RBIs of the inning and fourth of the game. Eastside added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning but it wasn't enough to keep the game going as the Bulldogs came away with the four inning victory. Boiling Springs will be off for the rest of the week before returning to play on Monday at Gaffney as they start their final region series of the season. Comments are closed.
