SPARTANBURG, SC - After dropping game one of the region series on Monday at home, the Boiling Springs baseball team bounced back in impressive fashion taking a 12-1 victory over Spartanburg at Duncan Park on Wednesday night.
It didn't take the Bulldogs long to get the bats going in the game as they scored four runs in their first at-bat to put Spartanburg in a big hole early. Landon Stevens got the game started with a single to right field before Kai Lee and Justin Dawkins followed him by reaching base on a walk and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Lucas Morrison and JD Moore followed with back-to-back singles scoring both Stevens and Lee to put the Bulldogs up 2-0 over the Vikings. Noah Ezell reached base on a fielder's choice that allowed Dawkins to score before Chansen Cole hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Morrison to score and to put the Bulldogs lead at 4-0 after one inning. Kyle Patterson led off the second inning with a single up the middle before scoring when Stevens hit a triple to centerfield pushing the lead to 5-0 over Spartanburg. Lee followed with a single to right field that allowed Stevens to score before scoring himself on a groundout to first base by Morrison to push the Boiling Springs lead to 7-0 after two innings of play. JD Moore led off the top of the fifth inning with a single to centerfield before scoring when Chansen Cole hit a home run over the left field wall as the Bulldogs took a 9-1 lead over the Vikings. After reaching base on a single up the middle, Kai Lee put the Bulldogs ahead 10-1 when he scored from third base on a fielder's choice by Morrison. Boiling Springs added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning as Noah Ezell and Titus Hutchins both scored on a single to left field by Landon Stevens to go ahead 12-1 over the Vikings. Landon Stevens led the Bulldogs bats going three of five with three RBIs and two runs scored. Lucas Morrison and Chansen Cole each joined Stevens with three RBIs in the game. JD Moore went three of four at the plate with an RBI while calling the game for Boiling Springs behind the plate. Cathen Cole got the win for the Bulldogs as he went five innings while allowing one run on three hits and striking out five batters. Kellan Spencer came on in relief only allowing two hits while striking out three Spartanburg batters. Spartanburg got their only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as EJ Grant scored on a single to centerfield by Tyler Stephenson. With the win Boiling Springs improves to 13-7-1 on the season and 4-4 in region play, as they will face off against the same Spartanburg team on Friday night at home. Comments are closed.
