SPARTANBURG, SC - With Spartanburg County schools on spring break, some of the baseball teams have still been busy in the Sparkle City tournament at Duncan Park, as the Boiling Springs baseball team captured a 9-0 victory over Wren on Monday night.
The Bulldogs got a big game from third baseman Landon Stevens who went three of three with four RBIs and two runs scored. Stevens got his big night started in the top of the third inning as with the bases loaded he tripled to right field scoring Logan Merchant, Emory Horton, and Kai Lee to take a 3-0 lead. He scored on the next at-bat on a wild pitch to push the Bulldogs lead to 4-0 over the Hurricanes. He singled to right field with one out in the top of the fourth inning before scoring on a single by Justin Dawkins to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Chansen Cole hit a sacrifice fly to left field on the next at-bat to score Kyle Patterson from third base and make the score 6-0 over Wren. Emory Horton, who reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth inning, later scored on a wild pitch to Stevens who later singled to the right side of the infield later in the at-bat scoring Noah Ezell to push the Bulldogs lead to 8-0 over the Hurricanes. Boiling Springs added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Kohen Bridges scored from third base on a passed ball to L Merchant to make the score 9-0 after six innings of play. While Stevens led the Bulldogs at the plate they also got good nights from Emory Horton, Kyle Patterson, and JD Moore who all went two of three at the plate on Monday night. Chansen Cole got the win for the Bulldogs going four and two third innings allowing no runs on four hits and striking out six batters. Josh Kanipe in relief also gave the Bulldogs a good inning of work as he allowed no hits while striking out two batters. Boiling Springs improves their record to 11-3-1 for the 2024 season. The win over Wren is the second game for the Bulldogs in the tournament as their first game ended in a 6-6 tie with Foutain Inn. They will play their final game of the tournament at 3:45 PM at Duncan Park against Mid-Carolina. Comments are closed.
