On Monday afternoon the Boiling Springs and Chesnee golf teams competed in the 5A and 3A Upperstate tournaments with both teams coming away with finishes that qualified them for the State Championship tournaments next week.
Boiling Springs competed in the 5A tournament that was held at their home course of Woodfin Ridge and came away with a performance that tied them for sixth with Wade Hampton while shooting a team score of 318. The Bulldogs finished the 5A Upperstate tournament behind Upperstate champion Rock Hill (283) and county foes Dorman and Spartanburg. Boiling Springs will look to win their sixth state golf championship in seven years starting next Tuesday at Lexington Country Club in Lexington, SC. Chesnee competed in the 3A tournament on Monday at Three Pines Golf Course in Woodruff, SC and walked away with a second place finish to the host Wolverines. The Eagles shot a combined team score of 304 and was eight shots behind the Wolverines for the Upperstate Championship but were ahead of county foes Broome (342) and Chapman (349) who also qualified for the state championship next week. The 3A state championship will start next Monday at the Camden Country Club in Camden, SC. Chesnee head coach Andy Pitt was pleased with his team's performance on Monday with it being their first look at the course. "It was tough not seeing the course before today but I was proud of our guys," said Coach Pitt. "We didn't have our best stuff and still managed to get around pretty good. I think today's outcome will fuel us moving forward and it was great seeing our other region teams, Broome and Chapman, also qualify." Both state tournaments will be two day events with the 3A tournament starting on Monday May 13 and the 5A tournament starting on Tuesday May 14. Comments are closed.
