BOILING SPRINGS, SC - The Boiling Springs wrestling team improved to 6-0 on the season after coming away with impressive victories over some tough local teams on Wednesday night.
Boiling Springs came away with victories over Crest (NC), Landrum, and the last year's state runner-up Hillcrest. "I think we wrestled well and are on the right path," said Bulldogs head coach Lee Thomas. "The biggest takeaway of tonight is that our losses were hard fought mental victories, and we didn't just give up six." In the first match of the night the Bulldogs defeated Landrum 78-6 to start the quad match on Wednesday night. Boiling Springs got pins against the Cardinals from Xavier Goodman, JoJo Barrett, Tyrell Nesbitt, Jason Blackwell, Peyton Hornack, and Matthew Emory. The second match of the night saw the Bulldogs defeat the state runner-up in 5A Hillcrest 36-27 to improve to 2-0 on the night. In the match against Hillcrest the Bulldogs got pins from Luke Hillers, Peyton Hornack, and Trent Coppola. They also got decision victories from JoJo Barrett, Tyrell Nesbitt, Easton Tipton, Jason Blackwell, Jacob Hill, and Ayden Whisler. Thomas said that he was proud of the way his team fought against a very good Hillcrest team. "With us just losing just one decision to team with the pedigree of Hillcrest is such a confidence boost to the bench," said Thomas. "It mentally makes showing up to practice tomorrow a little easier knowing you lost a hard-fought match by one, rather than getting stuck and giving up six points." Boiling Springs' final match of the night saw them come away with another impressive win as they defeated Crest (NC) 66-18 to finish out the night 3-0 and improve the Bulldogs to 6-0 on the season. The Bulldogs in the match got 10 pins with Jacob Dawkins starting the match with a pin at 180 and the final pin came from Xavier Goodman at 160. Boiling Springs won't have much time to celebrate as they'll return to the mat on Thursday in match at Chesnee. Comments are closed.
