The Boiling Springs Bulldogs wrestling team opened up their new season by picking up three wins in their new home arena by defeating Broome, Crest (NC), and Clover on Tuesday night.
"We did well because the first date is always a little nervous and you never know how they'll respond under the lights," said Boiling Springs head wrestling coach Lee Thomas. "We had some younger kids step up and get a couple of wins and it was sure a good way to start the season." Boiling Springs won their first match of the night against Broome picking up a 67-10 victory. The Bulldogs got big wins from Ethan Westall at 132, Matt Sanders at 138, and Cam Philson at 220 along with wins at the 126, 145, 152, and 160 weight classes to bring home an impressive win over a quality Broome wrestling team. In the second match of the night the Bulldogs picked up another lopsided victory by defeating Crest (NC) 66-12 by winning twelve of the fourteen matches. The Bulldogs third match of the night went back and forth early against Clover before they were able to finally pull away and pick up a 45-36 victory. One of the deciding matches against Clover was Moffette Graves being able to pick up a six point win at the 195 weight class. With the win the Bulldogs wrestling team becomes the third Boiling Springs team to pick up a victory in their first contest at the new arena and Coach Thomas said it's a special moment for the team to pick up a win in their first match at the new arena. "It was awesome and we talked about it yesterday how they could set the precedent for the team in the new arena," said Thomas. "They'll probably be the last team for a while to get an opportunity like this and this is one of the nicest facilities in the state. I know the kids are proud of the win and to start the season 3-0." Boiling Springs will take to the mat again this weekend when they travel to Woodmont for the Wildcat Invitational on both Friday and Saturday. Comments are closed.
