LANDRUM, SC - The Boiling Springs girls' volleyball team went on the road up Interstate 26 for a tri-match on Monday evening and when they made the return trip home, they had two wins coming back with them. With the wins the Bulldogs improve to 16-12 on the season as they're also 2-2 in region play after their first trip through Region II-5A. In the first match the Bulldogs took care of the 14-time SCISA state champions Spartanburg Christian Academy 2-0 in a best of three match. Senior Grace Shepherd led the way for the Bulldogs in the first match picking up six kills, five assists, and four ace serves. In the second match the Bulldogs fell down early dropping the first set to Landrum 25-23 to fall behind 1-0 in the best of three matchup. With the match on the line in the second set and both teams tied at 24-24, the Bulldogs scored the final two points of the match to grab a 26-24 win in the set and tie up the match at 1-1. In the third set, the Bulldogs kept their momentum from the victory in the second set to take a 25-19 win in the set and a 2-1 victory in the match. Bulldogs senior Karson Browning had a big game in the second match recording 12 kills including four block kills to go along with four block kills in the first match to make it eight block kills in five sets of play. Sophomore Olivia Smith had a good night for the Bulldogs registering a combined 22 digs in both matches. Shepherd added to her good night in the second match adding 11 digs, 16 assists, and eight kills against the Cardinals while eighth-grader Carolina Burgess added 15 assists in the match against Landrum. Boiling Springs will return to region play on Wednesday as they host Dorman. The Bulldogs also will have their annual pink night next Thursday (October 5th) against Gaffney.
