SPARTANBURG, SC - On Thursday the Boiling Springs track and field team competed in the Region II-5A meet at Spartanburg High School where the team came away with multiple region championships.
The first person to win a region championship for the team was senior sprinter Carmello Martin who won the boys 100m event in a time of 10.53 just ahead of second place Bryson Miller from Dorman. Senior Spencer Eison won the region championship in the boys triple jump event with a distance of 45'10" which was two feet further than the second place finisher and a school record. He also won the region championship with a height of 6'0" in the boys high jump event while sophomore teammate Aidan Kenny finished in third place with a height of 5'7". Bulldogs sophomore Katelyn Grate came home with a third-place finish in the girls 100m hurdles event in a time of 15.76, which was four thousandths of a second behind second place and just ahead of teammate Sydney Watson. Both Watson and Grate also beat the school record in the event. Grate also added a third-place finish in the girls long jump with a distance of 16'1" which was just short of second place. The Bulldogs came in second of the girls 4x100m relay event (Grate, Garner, Dawkins, and Watson) with a time of 48.80 which was less than two-tenths of a second behind first place Byrnes and six thousandths of a second from the school record. The girls 4x800m relay team (Steadings, Sanchez, Turner, and Panchelyuga) also finished in third place of their event. Ainsley Steadings finished in fifth place of the girls 3200 event but set a new school record in the event at Boiling Springs track and field will next compete at the 5A Upper State championships at Dorman on May 13th.
