DUNCAN, SC - Due to the effects of the approaching storms expected from Hurrican Ian on the Upstate of South Carolina, the Region II-5A swim meet was moved up to Thursday at the Middle Tyger River YMCA where Boiling Springs had a very strong outing.
The Bulldogs saw their boys' team coming home with a third-place finish and the girls' team coming away with a fourth-place finish. "I'm so proud of the way every single swimmer performed at the region meet," said Bulldogs head coach Lanie Peden. "Because of the weather situation we were given less than 24 hours to prepare to swim our championship meet. Although it wasn't an ideal situation in maximizing a taper, the kids made the best of the situation and really came out to race." Morgan Greenlee picked up a second-place finish in the girls' 200y freestyle finishing just three seconds behind Anna Buchert from Spartanburg. She also added another second-place finish in the 100y butterfly with a time of 1:02.55. Reagan Shaw added a fourth-place finish in the girls' 500y freestyle event while Laney Moore added a fourth-place finish in the 100y backstroke and a fifth-place finish in the 200y individual medley event. The girls' 400y freestyle relay team added a third-place finish with a time of 3:58.13, which was less than a second from a second-place finish. The team is made up of swimmers Morgan Greenlee, Reagan Shaw, Camryn Duncan, and Laney Moore and they also added a fourth-place finish in the 200y medley relay. Garrett Watson won the region championship in the boys' 100y butterfly with a time of 55.67, which was over two seconds of the second-place finisher. He also added a second-place finish in the boys' 500y freestyle with a time 4:58.59. Miles Humphreys grabbed a second-place finish in the boys' 200y freestyle event finishing just behind Caeden Stratton from Byrnes. Ashton Threadgill added another second-place in the boys' 200y individual medley with a time of 2:03.15, less than three seconds behind Caleb Bailey from Dorman. He also added a second-place finish in 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:01.45 and finished just ahead of teammate Miles Humphreys who added a third-place finish in the event. The Boiling Springs boys' 400y freestyle relay team (Will Robinson, Garrett Watson, Miles Humphreys, and Ashton Threadgill) added a third-place finish in the event while also finishing third in the 200y medley relay, as they were just under a second from finishing in second place. Boiling Springs had six swimmers make the All-Region team on Thursday split evenly between both the boys' and girls' teams as Morgan Greenlee, Laney Moore, Reagan Shaw, Garrett Watson, Ashton Threadgill, and Miles Humphreys all were named to the All-Region II-5A team. The Bulldogs will find out next week which swimmers will make it to the 5A state meet on October 8th at the University of South Carolina Natatorium in Columbia, SC. Comments are closed.
