On Tuesday evening the Boiling Springs softball team opened region play with a high scoring 15-7 road victory over Clover.
The Bulldogs got their game started with a single from shortstop AD Raines, who later came around to score on a groundout to third base by first baseman Bri Stanley to give Boiling Springs a 1-0 lead. After holding the Blue Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the first inning the Bulldogs went back to work with the bats as third baseman Kate Philbeck reached base on a single before coming around to score on a double to left field by Hailey Owens to extend the Bulldogs lead to 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the second inning Clover was able to score three runs on a single with two outs to give the Blue Eagles their first lead of the game at 3-2. Both teams were unable to get much going in the third inning as the only baserunner was a walk by Bulldogs catcher Ragan Bristol in the top half of the inning. In the top of the fourth inning the Bulldogs were able to tie the game at 3-3 when Samy Quintero reached base on a error before coming around to score on a Owens double to left field, her second double and second RBI of the game. Clover responded in the bottom half of the fourth inning by adding four more runs to take a 7-3 lead off three hits and three walks. In the top of the fifth inning the Bulldogs bats came to life as they scored six runs in the inning to take a 9-7 lead. The inning got started on an Olivia Hall double to right field before she came around to score on a double to centerfield by Ragan Bristol. After Bristol reached base, an error followed by a walk loaded the bases for the Bulldogs. With the bases loaded Samy Quintero hit a ball to the left side of the infield and the Clover defense committed another error that allowed Bri McAbee to score (who had pinch ran for Bristol) and keep the bases loaded. With the bases still loaded Owens walked to the plate to deliver her third double of the game, this time to centerfield, brining home both Kate Philbeck and Quintero for her third and fourth RBIs of the game to put the Bulldogs back in front. AD Raines added to the Bulldogs lead by doubling to right field and bringing home Owens as the Bulldogs batted through their whole lineup in the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth inning Boiling Springs extended their lead when Bri Stanley hit a towering homerun to deep left centerfield to give the Bulldogs a 10-7 lead. When the top of the seventh inning arrived the Bulldogs bats hadn't cooled off as they added five more runs in the inning. With one out in the inning AD Raines reached base for the third time in the game on a double to right field before coming around to score on a triple by Olivia Hall. Hall extended the Boiling Springs lead to 12-7 when she came home on a sacrifice fly to right field by Bristol with two outs. Stanley followed Bristol with a double and was joined on base by Sayde Parris who worked a walk to put two runners on base. Centerfielder Jaycie Osment followed Parris with her second hit of the game, this time a three run homer to left field that put the Bulldogs ahead 15-7 in a game they once trailed 7-3. While the Bulldogs bats were on fire in the final three innings they were able to keep the Blue Eagles bats silent over the last three innings with only one Clover runner allowed to reach second base. Boiling Springs will return to action on Friday night in another region matchup when they host Fort Mill. Comments are closed.
